An Irish priest who served an English parish for more than 30 years has left almost $1.5million in his will.

The late Canon Joseph Cahill was originally from Gurteen, Ballacolla, in County Laois and died in England last March.

Canon Cahill was the parish priest at St Vincent de Paul Church in Knutsford in the English diocese of Shrewsbury for over 30 years.

Details regarding the source of his estate’s value are unclear according to the Irish Independent reports.

However a spokesman for the Catholic Church in England has pointed out that any property Canon Cahill owned back home in Ireland would be included in the will.

BAck about 1200 a Pope Gregory changed the rules to prevent priests from marrying. Instead they marry the church and even get a wedding ring. And the big deal was the church, instead of the priests family inherited his money. Here in the USA almost any 18 year old kid can tell you that if you deny sex, make it shameful etc etc, ultimately the desire wins out in some cases. And the priest picks up at the mental age where he was first terrorized about having sex. So this explains a lot of how the endless hidden molestation of children came about. If possible under the law, his estate should be seized and given to the victims of the priests, I've read over 14000 so far identified in Ireland alone.
The longer i live the more i see that my Catholic Religion is full of corrupt Men posing as Holy Men of God. When in fact they are only Business Men that fill the coffers of the Vipers at the Vatican
@celticfour-EVERY priest and politician?? Why??? Bit judgemental by inference?
Most priests I know of here where I live in the US are frugal. I don't see an estate of that size as strange given to length of years of the man. They save their money because for many years priests didn't have retirement plans. They're just like the rest of us.
