It's a case of belated puppy love for an adorable dog born with both male and female genitals that was abandoned by its original owners, only to be rescued in time for the holidays by the Galway Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA). The conditon is extremely rare.

The unusual beige colored pup, a lurcher aged only eight weeks, has a new foster family and a new name, He-She, but its first weeks were spent cold and alone, according to a report in the Galway City Tribune.

He-She was found by the GSPCA shivering under a car in an East Galway town. The dog was brought for treatment and eventually found a temporary foster home earlier this month.

He-She will undergo a “sex change” in the New Year – a double neutering that will render her as a female.

“We don’t know if she’ll need hormones after that,” the GSPCA’s Margaret O’Sullivan told the Tribune.

O’Sullivan added that so-called hermaphrodite dogs are a rarity, and the condition is considered to be unthinkable in some cultures, which is likely why He-She was left for dead.

“In all my life I’ve never seen a dog or a cat like this,” O’Sullivan added.

The GSPCA plans on finding a permanent home for He-She in the New Year.

probably would,nt be to bad, could increase your chances of a relationship by 50%.poor little thing, just one of thousands in a nation of animal lovers.>?NOT.
"AngryPaddy" - I never cease to be amazed. I simply fail to comprehend what sort of brain will read an article about a sadly deformed dog, and use it as an opportunity to try to insult a whole nation. The same applies to you, "Towngate". I am now even further amazed that I am wasting my time commenting to you guys. Éamonn, Dublin, Ireland. EXTREMELY PROUD TO BE IRISH.
Just like the people of Ireland nobody knows who is F@#$ing who???
How much more sexual confusion can befall poor old Ireland. Considering the medical intervention in its God-given natural condition ( Btw:Is it a Catholic?) ...a good name would be "Scalpel!"
Update: I just learned that the correct spelling of thislittle dog's name was "Heeshee," but that her new name is now "Holly." What a lovely name! I hope this little one has a lovely life!!
duffmeister: Me too!
ktdearest: I agree with you. One thought I had, though, is to change the spelling to "Heishi" which is the really cool necklaces (silver and turquoise) made my Navajo jewelers and jewelers from the Santo Domingo pueblo. It is pronounced the same, but at least, looks kinder.
Since it should be spayed & nurtured any way what difference doe it make? Oh! Good luck with Scott Brown.
I would have named her Tiresias, Tir and Tirry for short.
Name her Vikki and put her on the ballot in Boston ... A better choice than that offered above.
I would take that puppy in a heart beat
I think a kinder name could have been given to the little dog.
