Catholic priest Fr Piero Corsi has stirred up some controversy in the wake of his Christmas message in which he asserts that with women becoming increasingly “provocative,” they have brought physical and sexual violence upon themselves.

The Journal reports on Father Corsi’s Christmas message, which was posted on the door of his church in the small parish of San Terenzo, near Lerici and La Spezia in northwest Italy. Father Corsi’s went viral after angry locals posted it to Facebook, where it spread first nationally and then internationally.

In the message, Father Corsi wrote “How often do we see girls and mature women going around scantily dressed and in provocative clothes?”

“They provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?”

In the message, Father Corsi went on to say that he believed the 118 women killed in acts of domestic violence in Italy in 2012 were a result of men being pushed to their limits.

He continued, “Is it possible that all of a sudden men have gone mad? We don’t believe it.”

“The fact is that women are increasingly provocative, they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation. Children are abandoned to their own devices, homes are dirty, meals are cold or fast food, clothes are filthy.”

Luigi Ernesto Palletti, the region’s bishop, responded to Father Corsi’s message by saying the message was “unacceptable and go against the church’s common feeling on the matter."

Despite reports saying otherwise, Father Corsi is insisting that he has not resigned in the wake of the controversy.

The mayor of San Terenzo said the message had left the town’s residents “dumbfounded and indignant.” An elderly female resident told Sky Italia television that Corsi “should keep a low profile as he has lots of secrets he would not wish to come out.”

A woman hater eh fr Piero Corsi, probably more interested in the chior boys than women eh?
Makes you wonder what was the provocation that resulted in 15,000 children being abused in Irish institutions by clergy. This is victim blaming - something this guys organisation is expert at.
Seanomelb - happy new year buddy! :)
Not much chance of that Smyrnian!! enjoy the new year holiday.
The adult human body will always get the attention of other adults. The real question is our development of self control and the respect shown to others. The question this Priest should have asked is; what are our children wearing that attracts the attention of certain trusted individuals within the Church's (it ain't just a Catholic thing) ??? Slainte!
Sean - take it easy man. You will bust a blood vessel.
Become an atheist redhand32 and leave the religions to the crazies like Smynian
Redhand - please go back on your meds. You are quite hysterical and paranoid. I hope you don't live near a school?
To the Christian Taliban leadership on IC being "Woodsman" and "Smyrnian": et ilk Facts: 1) As Todd Akin and Mourdack guy your fellow Christian Talibaners who in a single sentence, took themselves out of slam-dunk Senate races, medieval science and casting rape victims (provocatively dressed-deserved it) as ungrateful for God's gift of life is out of even the fringe of mainstream ethics. 2) The Christian Taliban RC hierarchy are pedo enablers who should be prosecuted under RICO statutes at a minimum; They surrendered their moral authority on any sexual or women's issues. 3)Look around you. Comments by this so-called moral authority on sex-related issues above and rape has been effectively repudiated. Catholic Institutions world wide
And what on earth does this have to do with Ireland or Irish immigrants/emigrants? Well at least they did not claim that somebody with the last name of "Ireland" was "rish-American." That was just plain weird.
Concerning Springfield9's post of yesterday, I would not slap a woman back, nor would I report her for assault. I would yell at her, and suggest she get hold of herself! If she continued to slap me, I would grab her wrists, in a restraining move. If she then attempted to punch/kick me in the groin area, THEN all chivalrous courtesies would cease. I would likely punch her in the face, breasts, or ovary area! Hopefully, I will never be put into such a position. I still maintain that it is wrong to hit a girl, even if she slaps us. After all, we were all taught, as young boys, to refrain from such behavior. We all can take a slap: it might even feel good, coming from certain girls!
This priest is confused, but so are certain women. If a girl dresses in a revealing outfit (mini skirt, low cut blouse, etc.), that doesn't give any guy the right to sexually interact with her, without her consent. However, some women are very insecure when men look at them. I, and every other guy, have a right to tactfully look at any woman, especially if she draws attention to herself, with her clothing, or lack thereof. Similarly, women have the right to look at us, and this interest will be increased if a guy in question wears a tight pair of shorts, or bathing suit.I feel that the opposite sex should take this visual attention as a compliment! Women reporters DO look at nude athletes, in the locker rooms. So long as the athlete takes it all off, knowing women are present, he should expect to be looked at; it is a normal "girl thing"!
Red hand dislikes dissenting views. The reaction is not one of intellectual engagement with the facts but to try to discredit others. Pitiful, juvenile and decidedly lacking in professionalism; but then again, this is IC so the standard is the lowest.
Fr. Corsi, "Smyrnian, and Woodsman aka The Christian Taliban !
The right wingnuts like this priest, Smyrnian and Woodsman "My Church right or wrong" on all occasions are not unlike Wild Bill Donovan of the Catholic League who comprise collectively the Christian Taliban ! I am a Catholic who hangs out most mornings with a Methodist pastor. We talk of Evangeklism often and the future of the Church among the young. I always point out stories about peachers burning Korans, Bishops who mandate parashes to "instruct" their parishioners to vote for fellow right wing nuts including Romney-Ryan under pain of damnation, and other crazies like the above players, how the young especially just turn off the essential Christian message. Yet, the Taliban, as did Cromwell, and the fanatics before them and since ramble on their unbridled Ignorant Arrogance, -- worn as Badges of Honor in their Taliban world.
