An unemployed married couple from Bosnia, with four children, is taking home over $121,000 (€90,000) per year in welfare checks.

The couple, who live in Dublin, takes home $2,385 (€1,763) per week.

Labour Party Senator Jimmy Harte has called for a cap on the amount of social welfare payments a family can receive.  Harte received the information about this family from the Department of Social Protection officials. He says that $68,000 (€50,000) is more than enough for one family per year.

Harte said "The family are doing nothing illegal but the system is wrong when a couple are able to receive €90,000 [$121,000] per year for doing nothing. I don't think this sort of payment is acceptable in the good times, never mind the bad times we find ourselves in now.

"There are married couples in this country with two good jobs, working very hard and are not receiving anything like this.

"As well as receiving €90,000 [$121,000] , they will not have to pay property tax or water charges. That is just wrong.

"You would need to be earning close to €140,000 [$190,000] to take that sort of money home after tax.

He added "This is a Dublin-based family but I know there are families in other counties receiving up to €85,000 [$115,000]. They won't take in as much in rent allowance but they are still entitled to all the other payments."

Harte has now sent this information to Joan Bruton, the Irish Minister for Social Protection.

He explained that he holds no personal grudge against the family. However, he wants a “root and branch” search of all families on social welfare and calls for a cap on the amount of payments they can receive.

The Department of Social Protection’s figures are as follows:

~ Father’s disability allowance —  $ 435.65 (€322)
~ Guardian’s pension for child taken in —  $386.95 (€286)
~ Rent supplement — $373.42 (€276)
~ Mother’s carer’s allowance — $514 (€380 )
~ Child benefit — $389.69 (€288)
~ Daughter (17 years) special needs — $285 (€211)

First : The full details of this case, must pe made public as we havw ab absolute right, as to know know exactly how the muppets in "Government" are wasting OUR money. Then these idiots, must bring in medical experts from Harley Street in London (the "home of medicine")and subject these "disabled" people. If disabled, send them home to Bosnia to be looked after. I,as a Taxpayer cannot afford to keep these people, on my Irish "pension" of 210 Euros a week. If they are in good health, send them back anyway, let their own Government look after them. BRingin Harley medical experts to thoroughly examine these Romanians. If genuinely disabled---send them home to be looked by their own people instead of we Tax-payers, If the are notdisabled---send them anyway.I cannot afford to keep them on my 219 Euros a week "pension". Get rid of them any way you like.
Send em back to Bosnia. Take their prints & put their DNA on a watch list, so they can never enter Ireland again. Let them go beg in Bosnia. Don't even spend another penny on prosecuting them. Send them and their brats back to Bosnia where they will live a different kind of life.
Hey what a Deal. packing up the family OF 5 and moving to Ireland. giving up my $68.000 a year job . why work.& pay taxes.
Why bother working when you can collect this crazy amount of money a month. If this is what everyone gets, no wonder Ireland is in a losing battle. This is better than collecting welfare in the U.S.A.
For god sake you lot, two stories in a newspaper, yes just two, and you know all about us. please just sit back and read your newspapers in America, you won't be able to get off your seats for a month. No one here is getting that sort of money, except through crookery and that goes on in every country, yes we had a lot of emigrants during the boom, but not so now, compared to America, ours would just be a handful. Apologies to a bigot like G.D. no. He would just love to see the kkk arrive over here. The romanians and bosnians are mainly gypsy tribes who move from country to country doing what they do best until caught out. KRISDALY quote...riot loot and kill, you must be mistaking us for the british, and I would love to see you repeat what you have said.. to an irish mans face, who has just lost his job, like many in America have too. We have our long term unemployed( not disabled or invalid) who don't want to work.. like many in America. They must be getting some type of welfare in the states, or are they all homeless and starving. The states have the biggest mixed race in the world who are " American " Some so called Irish Americans who do well, make us sick with thier moaning about Ireland but none come back to the mother land.
How do they do it or get away with it,but then the Irish polititions are corrupt when it comes to expenses claims and awarding themselves excessive salaries so who can blame that family they have good tutors in government
Here's another example of Multicultralism that most Irish seem to embrace.Oct 1st: Gardaí have arrested a gang they believe has stolen between €150,000 and €250,000 of electrical goods and jewellery in a series of burglaries in Dublin and Meath in recent months Of the nine arrested, two are female and seven male. All are members of the Roma community. Progressive Liberalism in action.
If this is a con job, then I guess the story in today's Irish newspapers about the arrest of a nine-member gang of Romanian thieves in Dublin is a con also. Funny how the Mass Immigrationist/Fianna Fail posters here think all foreign migrants in Ireland are Santa Clauses or Mothers Theresa.
This is a con job story if ever there was one. The Irish Voice readers must be very gullible. If they believe this I have a governor of New Jersey that I want them to elect President. He only weighs 175 pounds no matter what the Dems say.
No wonder the country is falling apart and broke. And yet the Irish in Ireland still feel it is perfectly OK to lecture Irish-Americans on all that is wrong with the U.S., and where we went wrong. Of course if we bought this topic up, we would be told we don't understand, but of course they do.
So where are the apologies to George Dillon??
This sounds a totally ridiculous joke. $121k a year, $10k a month, in welfare, in Ireland! What a non-sense! That's more than twice the median income in the US, probably more than three times the median income in Ireland. Somebody must have pulled a Michelle Bachmann with this article and "stretched the truth" somewhat.
Is there a writen law? which I am sure there is that the Irish welfare system must comply with to pay those people welfare? if so it should be revised asap...
If the politicians stop bribing them with welfare they would riot, loot, and kill. So it is a form of blackmail with the majority of welfare recipients that if you "dont pay me I will burn your cities down" mentality. Make them work like the Bible says:" if you don't work you don't eat"!!!!!!!!
