An expert has stated that the latest bog body found in Ireland has proven that belief that the Celts ritually sacrificed their kings to the Gods.

The body also proves  they underwent horrible deaths, if the times turned bad under their reign.

The latest Iron Age bog body dating back to at least 2,000 BC was discovered near Portlaoise  in the Irish midlands by an alert bog worker and it bears the same hallmarks of ritual torture that two other famous bodies have.

Ned Kelly, keeper of antiquities at the National Museum of Ireland told the Irish Examiner that a clear pattern has emerged in each case.

"We do not think of these bog bodies in the same way as we do axes or implements that are found," he says. "You have to remember that these are individuals and it is absolutely essential to deal with their remains in a dignified manner. There would be no justification in taking these bodies unless we do so with respect and with the serious intent to tell their stories on their behalf."

"I am quite convinced we are dealing with an Iron Age male, one who was subjected to a ritual killing. There are cuts and marks on the body that indicate that this is somebody who was done to death."

The body is linked closely to two other major finds, the discoveries of Old Croghan Man and Clonycavan Man, also found in Irish bogs both of whom were ritually sacrificed.

Human sacrifice was apparently a normal part of the Celtic rituals , especially of kings in hard times.

"The killings tend to be excessive,"  Kelly, said "in that more is done to the bodies than would be required to bring about their deaths. Bog bodies may have their throats cut, been stabbed in the heart and have other cut marks. However, it is absolutely not torture, but a form of ritual sacrifice."

"The king had great power but also great responsibility to ensure the prosperity of his people. Through his marriage on his inauguration to the goddess of the land, he was meant to guarantee her benevolence. He had to ensure the land was productive, so if the weather turned bad, or there was plague, cattle disease or losses in war, he was held personally responsible."

At 6’6", Old Croghan Man, who was killed between 362 BC and 175 BC, was a giant of a man. he bore every appearance of a nobleman from his well manicured soft hands to his diet, which was rich in meat.
Clonycavan Man was little more than 5 ft and used pine resin to keep his hair in place.

He's a liar
St. Patrick commented negatively on Irishmen suckling other Irishmen's nipples. No one made this custom up, unless you want to call St. Patrick a liar.
"Sucking a king’s nipples was a gesture of submission in ancient Ireland," says Kelly. "Cutting them would have made him incapable of kingship in this world or the next." Who exactly decided on this? Only wombmen suckle their children- the next generation. This thinking by Kelly does not add up.
"He was stabbed repeatedly and he had his nipples sliced, before he was finally cut in half." Strange, as this is what jesuits did to Buddhist children in Vietnam. Coincidence? Maybe it was Patriarch Patrick and his gang that murdered the sovereign Kings? Pre celtic invasion of Eire had no hu man sacrifice.
If nothing else, the prospect of such a miserable death must have served to keep the king's megalomania under control. And for a few centuries, Christianity also kept kings from developing any unseemly lust for excessive power, as Bede's History shows. All that time, however, Church officials were heeding the Gospel less and growing more ambitious for temporal power for themselves. And now that they've been caught out, they're getting off easily-- no knives to the heart or nipples, no triple axe to the head, no ropes through the arms, and no boggy graves-- just the press and other news media to rip their hearts out (metaphorically) and bury them (symbolically) in their own filth.
Why does Irish Central keep repeating the same stories?
@PatriciaMarya .. The Dacassian tribes, possibly Jewish influenced, did not practice human sacrifice and as a result were despised as impious. They converted to Christianity before Patrick arrived.
Perhaps we should go back to this custom, using CEOs instead. We could sacrifice them to the high god called the Invisible Hand.
What incredible timing: "Secrets of the Stones" on PBS just had two solid hours dedicated to first, Ireland in Neolithic times and the Passage Tombs and then, the second hour, devoted to how Christianity came to Ireland and how the monks saved civilization! (I recommend that wonderful book - "How the Irish Saved Civilization"). Then I read this! It is said that the reason why people turned away from the pagan rituals of the Druids and went to Christianity was because there was no human sacrifice involved. There was also the terrible Catastrophe of Nature that caused the Earth to suffer for decades which drew people from adoring the Earth to going to the adoration of the Sky, to above them. I do love the fact that the theory of St. Patrick is blown to pieces - he did NOT bring Christianity to Ireland; it had already been here for 100 years by the time he returned! He was a clever bloke, however, he chose The Hill of Tara to proclaim his religion! Try to find this series - "Secret of the Stones" as produced by RTE-Cork. It is just a wonderful, learned history lesson being studied today by Ireland's wonderful archeologists, geophysicists and anthropoligists, scientists, and the like, all being done with the wonderful innovative technologies we have today. It is an amazing story about this wonderful country, Ireland. No wonder the Vatican has such problems with Ireland - it is a country ahead of its time when it comes to religion and it always has been!
great find and adds credence to our pe-Celtic history.
I agree completely with Katiemac. We should institute these partices sooner than later, before they kill off all of us through their greed and horrible decisions. We'r hungry, poorer, angier, more intellegent to see through their bullshit. "Off with their heads", and other parts!
Looks like the ancient Irish had more backbone as regards punishing bad leaders than the current spineless lot. Today's Irish have given huge pension deals to all those who have brought their country to ruin. Even in today's news there's a report that a prominent adviser to the former Fianna Fail the Mass Immigration party government got a golden handshake of a million bucks. This was an "adviser" whose advice was completely worthless, might as well have used a fortune teller for advice, yet he gets a million this year, and I think an annual pension for the rest of his lousy life of maybe a quarter a million bucks each year.
