Writer Maeve Binchy's legacy will be celebrated in her hometown later this week when a one-hour stage show is performed in her memory.

As a tribute to the 72-year-old best-selling author, who died just over a year ago, a stage adaption of her famous novel, 'Minding Frankie', will be performed at Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre in Co. Dublin.

The play's director, Margaret Dunne, who also manages the heritage centre, recalled how Maeve was left heartbroken shortly before her death when her failing health left her unable to attend the nearby first performance for years of her most successful play.

Ms. Dunne said: "We had already staged her award-winning play, 'Deeply Regretted By', as part of our 'Discover Dalkey's Literary Gems' series in 2012.

"Maeve was ill at the time of the production, but her husband, Gordon Snell, and her sister, Jean, and other members of her family attended."

She added: "Gordon described how they had to sit with Maeve on their return from the performance and give a full description of the show.

"Then, letters of thanks and encouragement arrived from Maeve herself."
