Wicklow gets a visit from royalty as ‘Camelot’ begins filming
‘Camelot’ begins filming with Ardmore Studios in Wicklow
Killruddery House and Gardens outside Bray, County Wicklow, were transformed into ancient Britain as filming began on the TV series “Camelot."
The ten-part U.S. TV series stars Jamie Campbell-Bowers as King Arthur and Joseph Fiennes as sorcerer Merlin.
The house, outside the town of Bray, was sent back in time with details such as replica gates attached to its more modern façade. The gates are meant to be those of a castle where Merlin and King Arthur would exit on their horse. The two were filmed galloping across the hills of Wicklow and practicing their swordsmanship.
Eva Green is playing Morgan, the evil half-sister of Arthur. Green is better know for her role in “Casino Royale”. She was spotted filming dressed in full costume.
Michael Hirst, the co-creator of this series and also a writer on “The Tudors,” thought that Wicklow would be the perfect spot to recreate Camelot.
He said: “The landscape is perfect for the Arthurian setting. You get a real sense of the Dark Ages in Ireland.”
The series will air in the United States in 2011.
