U2 paid tribute last Thursday to the victims of the Pike River mine disaster when they performed in New Zealand this week.

During the bands latest installment of their 360-world tour at Mt Smart Stadium, Bono acknowledged New Zealand's sombre mood in the wake of the tragedy.

The star dedicated the poignant One Tree Hill which was written for New Zealander Greg Carroll, Bono's roadie who died in 1986, to the victims.

As the band played out the tune, the names of all the miners were beamed onto a video screen.

Earlier in the night, Jay-Z, who supported the Irish band, also paid tribute to the River miners.
