Susan Boyle more popular than Michael Jackson for Sony

Susan Boyle means as much to Sony Records as Michael Jackson, the latest figures from the company reveal.

Sony attributes their sharp increase in operating income for the year ending March 31st to global releases by Boyle and Jackson.

Operating income increased for the label by 31 percent to $393 million from $300 million.

With Susan's album clocking in well over the 3 million mark, “I Dreamed a Dream” was a huge part of those sales.

Incredible, when you think about it, that an unknown Scottish stay-at-home woman could in one year be right up their with the king of pop and one of the greatest legends in history.
 
When you consider that most of the Michael Jackson sales were for his lifelong work and his catalogue, and Susan Boyle's were based purely on her debut album, you get some sense of the incredible impact she has had.

With the Michael Jackson era fading, Sony will be depending again on Susan and  her second album to boost sales for the company.

Well, I'm not surprised at all!! Susan is pure talent, no gimmicks, no multiple track recordings to cover lack of range, just a fabulous voice and quality product. We haven't haven't had a real "singer's singer" around for a long time. I really don't think you can compare the two, though. Two different eras and audiences. Susan is current and has an audience that respects and responds to talent and quality today, and doesn't buy gimmicks, and she has probably saved the music industry this year by having an audience that actually buys her cds and wants to own her cds! And knowing the next cd will be a quality product, has probably already pre-ordered it! Susan is grounded in who she is, her focus, and there is no expiration on this lady's talent! Sony should feel so blessed to have her as a recording atist and should pay her accordingly.

Susan deserves and has earned her popularity and success. She is the best singer I have ever heard and a lovely Lady as well. Her next album will outsell even her first.

Trennie The Boyle as to pass Madonna's sales, but that wont happen either. 350million and still going - thats with 19albums, only her 1st album did not pass the 10million all the rest have. The Boyle as just passed that by sales are dropping of the edge now.

Sony gets 50% of every CD Boyle sells while she gets under 10%. Michael or his estate gets well over 30% of every CD and Sony about 36%. This is does not even count.

This as got to be a Joke? Not a fan of MJ's Music but i did like him, The album Thriller is the biggest selling album ever and not even The Boyle could do that. MJ sold over 750million records. So when The Boyle comes close to that amount then can say she is BIGGER. BUT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPED.

This is a very weird article with no quotes from Sony's spokesperson or any source of data.MJ sold over 31 million albums and over 25million digital downloads globally in 2009 alone, while Susan sold less than one fifth of what MJ had sold so I don't take this article seriously. ;)

I have - and very much enjoy - Susan Boyle's album and look forward to buying her second, third, fourth etc.. To appreciate her success with her debut album doesn't take away from any other artist's success. Bravo, Susan!

I'm very happy for Susan. The sale of her debut album was more than she or Sony could have dreamed up. It's great to see Sony and others given her the respect that she has earned. As for Michael, he will always be the king of pop and a very talented performer.

Susan's popularity has told Sony there is an audience, a vast and highly credible audience, who appreciates music....not tonal cacophony. It certainly behooves those music moguls to remember there are still millions of us. We've not died off the globe yet.

The fact that so few people actually buy albums anymore makes Susan Boyle's sales all that more incredible. When Michael Jackson started out there was no downloading or stealing, people bought the records. No one will ever top his lifetime sales and his music will continue to sell. However, again, considering that his sales were so high last year largely due to his death really does say a lot.

Susan is amazing but to say she has had more impact than Michael Jackson is crap. Sony wouldn't be Sony if it wasn't for MJ. Michael generated billions of dollars for them. Sony needed Michael. Michael didn't need Sony. Plus there is no way the Michael Jackson era is fading. It will never fade. Plus Sony signed a deal with MJ's estate for 200 million dollars so that just goes to show Sony still needs MJ.
