Seamus Heaney has won Britain’s best known poetry prize, for best collection, for his book “Human Chain”, which tackles the issues of old age.
 
The 71-year-old poet had been in with a chance of the prize twice before and has now walked away with the $15,868 prize.
 
“Human Chain” is the poet’s 12th collection and his first in four years. This prize comes 44 years after his work was first published.
 
When Heaney was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995 he said “The quality of the other books on the shortlist, my respect for the judges, and the distinction of previous winners have made this prize a highly regarded contribution to poetry in this country; it is one of the most enhancing rewards which the individual artist can be granted, I am truly grateful.”
