Actor Colin Farrell slams spoiled Hollywood stars

Says they should enjoy their stardom and quit whining

Colin Farrell has slammed whiny movies stars who moan about the burden of fame and the media focus on them.

The Irish actor’s remarks are sure to arouse controversy. He made them in an interview with USA Today newspaper.

"You don't want to be photographed by the paparazzi? Say no to the 120 million dollar film. Eventually they'll stay away from you," he said.

"But you won't have the other things the 120 million dollar film brings into your life: the good seats at the sports event, the backstage pass to the concert, the nice reclining chair on the plane."

"Do I enjoy the paparazzi? No. I went through years of getting in their faces. It was such a disaster. It made my life so much more complicated."

The Fright Night star said the payoff was worth the hassle. "To be able to provide for my family. I'm not going to bitch about it. At times you feel like you have to apologise for being in big films."

The 35-year old star admitted he still gets a kick out of five star hotels. He said: "You're talking to someone who checks into the Four Seasons and gets giddy at what is on the menu and looks at the on-demand on TV and gets so giddy that I can have films that are still in theatres."

His latest film "Fright Night" is currently playing in theatres.

Colin remembers where he came from in Ireland, not a very nice place from what I understand. (gossip columns). He seems to be a down to earth person from what I've seen of him on Letterman. Who wants the papparazzi around? Only the ones that dont have a life.

First I would like to thank Mr. O'Dowd for posting the comments about FAST and also "Live Aid for Special Needs Day, next July in Dublin. Second a few notes on previous comments. The $120 million mentioned is the film budget NOT an actor's salary. Mr. Farrell drives a hybrid Caddy Esplanade, what with the smog in LA very responsible. Why do TMZ style paps. get upset if you go out to dinner and don't want to stop and tell them your Holiday plans, what your filming next and who you are dating? Just so they can have what they themselves call a "money shot?" Something wrong with our culture. In Ireland your personal life is just that private.

Most of the newer breed of Hollywood actors and actresses are of low morality and lousy role models for out young people. Look at the "crap" that the industry is putting out on TV and the movies.

Colin doesn't get the rich. In order to avoid being a braggard, the rich complain. If the bought a luxury car, the complain about the cost, the gas milage, and that it is alway in the shop. Actor complain about the papparatizzi.

I agree with Colin Farrell.If you want to be famous and you want big bucks the paparazzi are part of the job.But I think their is a line the paparazzi should not cross.You have to respect the human being.

Well written gasit51! As to Mr.Farrell I knew there was a reason I liked you! Brutal honesty, but my God man you have just given Hellywood a reason to trash you! You might as well said to them in the words of one famous movie line that they, "...can't handle the truth!" Surrounded by cadres of "yes" persons and enablers they need to get a sense of reality which you Mr. Farrell obviously have! Keep up the good work and I will look forward to viewing "Flight Night"

I think we give actors/actresses far too much recognition. These people are our modern day court jesters who are here only to amuse us. Why what they wear or where they eat or how they think is so important to the masses is way beyond me. Paid 120 million to pretend? Get real.

I think some of the newer younger actors may be the ones Colin is referring to in this article. When first bombarded by 'fame' it has to be overwhelming from anyone new to the Hollywood "star biz". Naturally, they may sigh and complain about the paparrazzi in their faces etc but, with time, and like Colin...the youngsters will get used to it til the spotlight switches to the younger faces coming up behind them.

Celebrity can give the charities you support the benefit of your name recognition. On the Letterman show Colin Farrell told of his son James condition, Angelman Syndrome. FAST receives no federal money for it's search for a cure, only donations. James is "main-streamed" in school in LA. Parents in Ireland don't have this option. The Boyles, in Dublin asked Mr. Farrell's help in thanging this policy, therby "Live Aid for Special Needs" came about. Live bands,celebrities,televised, will take place in Dublin July, 2012. Being a celebrity has other benifits as Mr. Farrell knows well, his many charity interests have gain by his interest in them, many in Ireland. Being the parent of a special needs child has made him especially sensitive to causes that help children. When he first disclosed his son Jimmy had Angelman Syndrome most people had never heard of it. Parents often would go years without a proper diagnosis because it is so rare. The FAST organization receives no funds from the federal government and all the work for treatment and cure come from donations. WW.cureangelman.org if you want to know learn more. James is "main-streamed" he attends school with typical kids his own age, and also receives the help he needs. Main-streaming isn't done in Ireland, if you have a specials needs child you can't have them attend puplic or parochial school. Some time ago a couple in Dublin wrote to Mr. Farrell asking his help in changing that policy. Next year July 2012, will kick off,"Live Aid for Special Needs' an event , telivised, with live bands and celebrities, from the Gibson Hotel, Dublin. Colin Farrell will be the keynote speaker. I do like Colin but I agree with a previous poster (Imuverin) that his career has taken a puzzling turn of late in terms of quality projects. An A-list actor doing a remake of "Fright Night"?! Mr. Farrell, you should ask yourself, "What would George Clooney do?"

I totally and vehemently disagree. I pay to see a film, not to intrude in the life of an actor. We own the films when on DVD, we do not own the actor and his personal private life. IF a movie contract said you get paid this and that includes having no privacy, no private life of your own, having your life as a reality show 24/7, then many perhaps most would still sign up for the money, but some really just like the art of film-making and bringing characters to life and want to do that without giving their rights to life (whatever happened to the right of pursuit of happiness? Do you think they are all happy being photogrpahed against their will trying to eat dinner, to drive home, etc????)and by the way, those actors will take paycuts and do films for much much less money just to act in a film that appeals to them or work with a director they admire, etc. They aren't famewhores, they are actual actors, artists who have a craft that is unfortunately equated with being a 'star.' There are stars that cannot act, actors who are not stars, and actors who don't want to be stars.

Good for Colin. It is nice to hear he realizes and appreciates the adoration and payscale of Hollywood. Try working 5 12's as a nurse, having all the responsibility, a poor salary and poor medical insurance. The salaries for Policemen, Firemen, Nurses Paramedics Emt's, its all backwards!!
