You may have had the pleasure of visiting the largest church in Ireland, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, in Dublin’s city center but never before has this historic building been seen from this perspective – by drone.

The folks at SkyPixels, using a Dji Phantom 3 drone, filmed the interior of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in all its glory and posted it to YouTube. The, frankly a little haunting, choral background was provided by the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Choir.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral, founded in 1191, is one of Dublin's two Church of Ireland cathedrals. Christ Church, the other cathedral, is the diocesan cathedral of the Diocese of Dublin and Glendalough. Since 1870, the church has designated St Patrick's as the national cathedral for the whole island, drawing chapter members from each of the twelve dioceses of the Church of Ireland.

The office of Dean at the cathedral has existed since 1219 and, of course, the most famous holder of that office was Jonathan Swift, the author of "Gullivers Travels."

The cathedral was built to honor of Ireland’s patron saint and stands adjacent to the famous well where tradition has it, Saint Patrick baptized converts on his visit to Dublin.

Today the Cathedral is open to all people as an architectural and historical site, but principally as a place of worship.
