One million viewers abandoned Glenn Beck's Fox News show in the last year and now he has to contend with a rival he never anticipated: Donald Trump.
In an extraordinary about face Beck gave his backing to the President, taking his side against Donald Trump's birther onslaught.
Trump questioned whether the President had been born in American territory and speculated that he may be a Muslim, two charges that the Republican party are desperate to put behind them.
Beck was speaking on The O’Reilly Factor show on Friday. "You can say, 'I don't believe the president has a birth certificate.' But then Trump goes into 'I do not believe he has a birth certificate' and then he releases one that's worse than Obama's. And then he comes back and he says on your program, 'He might be a Muslim too.' I'm like, come on!"
Critics scoffed that by attacking Trump Beck was simply defending his own job because he heard Trump had been offered a slot on Fox News, while his own show is under threat.
Sources say they believe Beck's contract at Fox News is unlikely to be renewed, and a number of radio stations and advertisers have already dumped his show.
