Filmmaker making feature on Irish slang using crowdfunding - What about ye? - VIDEO

Still from Jenny Keogh's 'Story Bud?'

Jenny Keogh, an Irish Filmmaker, achieved success when her video “Story Bud?” went viral with more than 30,000 views on its first day on YouTube. She also had a big-screen debut of the video in front of 20,000 people in Trafalgar Square in London.

She has now set her sights on creating a feature film which will take a closer look at the unique Irish slang phrases that are used from day to day.

To do this, she will travel Ireland, capturing slang from the different counties on camera. Each town will be set up with a Phrase Donor Clinic where locals can come and donate the phrases they are familiar with. Keogh will film up to 600 people and will include views from experts on slang and colloquialisms like Professor Terence Dolan, author of “A Dictionary of Hiberno-English”.

“I’m aiming for informative rather than academic,” said Keogh of her venture, “but mostly I hope it’ll be entertaining and have a global appeal,” SiliconRepublic.com reports.

Keogh is hoping to fund her project through Irish crowdfunding platform, Fundit.ie, where donors can pledge from €15 onwards to receive rewards such as phrase-filled posters and signed dvds of the video as well as Keogh’s services as a filmmaker.

A short teaser video has been uploaded on YouTube to give viewers a taste of what can be expected from the filmmaker.
