Four Irish citizens on board a private airplane were injured during an emergency crash landing in Florida this morning.
The Piper PA-28 Cherokee plane, piloted by a man named Grant Jordan, 57, reportedly experienced engine failure as the plane began its descent into Albert Whitted, a small local airport near St. Petersburg.

The pilot attempted to land in Vinoy Park on the city’s waterfront, one mile away from the airport, before colliding with a tree.
The St. Petersburg Tribune reports that Jordan and passenger Aloysius Ryan, 52, were taken to Bayfront Health South, a nearby hospital, in “serious but stable” condition.

The two other passengers on board, Eamonn Harnell, 48, and a teenage girl, sustained only minor injuries.
The group was traveling a short distance, from Tallahassee to St. Petersburg. The crash took place at 10:30am.
Federal Aviation Administration officers investigating the scene of the crash and local motorists have been warned to avoid the area.
Please avoid driving in the Vinoy Park area in St. Petersburg because of the investigation of the small plane crash
