Brothers Melvin and Keith Galle are responsible for luring, robbing and shooting the Tipperary officer.

Brothers Melvin Galle Jr. (40) and Keith Galle (34) were arrested on Tuesday for the attempted murder and armed robbery of Irish officer Brian Hanrahan, who was on holiday with his father in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Police Department arrested the brothers shortly before 2pm in the 1600 block of LaHarpe Street, close to where Hanrahan (32) was shot. The two were booked for the attempted murder and armed robbery that took place on January 27 at 5:40 am.

Melvin Galle Jr. (left) was the individual who befriended the Tipperary man that morning and led him to the Seventh Ward for a supposed party, though he is believed to have been luring Hanrahan into the robbery trap he created with his brother.

Hanrahan retrieved $200 from a nearby ATM before walking two miles away from the bustling French Quarter with Galle. Allegedly, Galle’s brother then approached Hanrahan and demanded his money - when Hanrahan refused, Keith Galle (right) shot Hanrahan in the leg and lower spine. The two brothers took Hanrahan’s money and fled by foot.

The shooting gained international attention, and over $5,000 has been raised for the Hanrahan family by Irish organizations and police departments in New Orleans. Hanrahan has a wife and a one-year-old daughter.

Melvin Galle Jr. was named as a suspect over the weekend, and NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble announced about 90 minutes after the arrests that investigators concluded Keith Galle was the second suspect, and the one who shot Hanrahan.

Hanrahan is recovering at Interim LSU Hospital after having surgery to remove a bullet from his lower spine.
