Christopher 'Christy' Andrew Moore, one of Ireland's most popular folk musicians, was born in Newbridge, Co Kildare on May 7, 1945.

Moore, an Irish folk singer, songwriter, and guitarist, was named Ireland's greatest living musician in RTE's People of the Year Awards in 2007.

Moore was one of the founding members of the Irish bands Planxty and Moving Hearts, though he has now released nearly two dozen solo albums, as well as several live and compilation albums.

There's no shortage of songs in Moore's musical catalogue, but in celebration of his birthday, here are Christy Moore's top songs, according to Spotify:

"Ride On"

Written by Jimmy MacCarthy, Moore's verison"Ride On" was featured on his 1984 album of the same name.

"Back Home in Derry"

The lyrics to "Back Home in Derry" were penned by IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands while he was in the Maze, while the song's melody is borrowed from Gordon Lightfoot's 1976 hit song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Moore's version of "Back Home in Derry" featured on his 1984 album "Ride On."

"Ordinary Man"

Written by Peter Hames, Moore's version of "Ordinary Man" was the title track on his 1985 album.

"Beeswing"

"Lisdoonvarna"

A Christy Moore original! Moore says he first performed the song in The Lawns, Belturbet the week before he was to go on before Rory Gallagher at the Lisdoonvarna festival in 1983.

"The original version was more chaotic and referred to a series of events that took place on the way down to West Clare," Moore says.

"There was a break in to Portlaois prison to serenade friends,a savage feed at the old treaty stone diner in Limerick where a card school broke out and Dickie Rock went all in on a pair of threes."

In 2010, Moore's "Lisdoonvarna" was included in Penguin Publishers' "Collection of Irish Verse."
