The CIA uses Irish Americans as examples of "exporter of terrorism.” because of support for the IRA in a new classified document released by Wikileaks.

In the latest Wikileaks document released yesterday a classified CIA document referred to as a "red cell" document is displayed.

It discusses what the impact would be if other countries began to view Americans as part of the terrorism problem rather than helping with the solution.

The document is entitled " What If Foreigners See the United States as an “Exporter of Terrorism”?

It says some Irish Americans were definitely part of this scenario and replays Irish American history.

"Some Irish-Americans have long provided financial and material support for violent efforts to compel the United Kingdom to relinquish control of Northern Ireland.

In the 1880s, Irish-American members of Clan na Gael dynamited Britain’s Scotland Yard,Parliament, and the Tower of London, and detonated bombs at several stations in the London underground.

"In the twentieth century, Irish-Americans provided most of the financial support sent to the Irish Republican Army (IRA). The US-based IrishNorthern Aid Committee (NORAID), founded in the late 1960s, provided the Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA) with money that was frequently used for arms purchases.

Only after repeated high-level British requests and then London’s support for our bombing of Libya in the 1980s did the US Government crack down on Irish-American support for the IRA."

The document opens "Much attention has been paid recently to the increasing occurrence of American-grown Islamic terrorists conducting attacks against US targets, primarily in the homeland. "

The document argues that ."Less attention has been paid to homegrown terrorism, not exclusively Muslim terrorists, exported overseas to target non-US persons. This report examines the implications of what it would mean for the US to be seen increasingly as an incubator .... “

"Contrary to common belief, the American export of terrorism or terrorists is not a recent phenomenon, nor has it been associated only with Islamic radicals or people of Middle Eastern, African or South Asian ethnic origin. This dynamic belies the American belief that our free, open and integrated multicultural society lessens the allure of radicalism and terrorism for US citizens.

• Late last year five young Muslim American men traveled from northern Virginia to Pakistan allegedly to join the Pakistani Taliban and to engage in jihad. Their relatives contacted the FBI after they disappeared without telling anyone, and then Pakistani authorities arrested them as they allegedly attempted to gain access to al-Qa’ida training facilities.

• In November 2008, Pakistani-American David Headley conducted surveillance in support of the Lashkar-i-Tayyiba (LT) attack in Mumbai, India that killed more than 160 people. LT induced him to change his name from Daood Gilani to David Headle yto facilitate his movement between the US, Pakistan, and India.

• Some American Jews have supported and even engaged in violent acts against perceived enemies of Israel. In 1994, Baruch Goldstein, an American Jewish doctorf rom New York, emigrated to Israel, joined the extremist group Kach, and killed 29 Palestinians during their prayers in the mosque at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron which helped to trigger a wave of bus bombings by HAMAS in early 1995."

Let's be fair Edinborn every presidential candidate feels the need to find a little Irish sperm, maybe Monica!!no lets not go their.
Let's just say we were private financiers of soldiers engaged in asymmetric warfare. Reagan played up his Irish heritage when he ran for president but then got in bed with Thatcher. He sold out his people for a knighthood.
So what you are saying is that there will be no reparation checks in our mailboxes?...I disagree about your slavery take. england was militantly anti slavery and had just signed the 1862 Treaty between United States and Britain for the suppression of the slave trade...So there was no way england was going to overtly support a slave state....Not only did Lincoln sign the anti slavery agreement with england he trumped that with the emancipation procrlamation....and yes england is was a terrorist state to those it has exploited.
. . . receive any compensation.
England did support the south and the continuation of slavery in the south was in england's self interest. Re the deforestation, I was speaking in terms of the present value of the economic worth of the timber not some radical environmentalism. This was only a mild example of the terror state's crimes in Ireland to put the absurd payoffs to unionists "victims" in perspective. You'll never see any real victims, such as the families of those killed in bloody sunday and at Ballymurphys (which was far worse based on eyewitness accounts).
No but it kept england from actively and openly supporting the south. General Lee said the biggest mistake the south made was not to abolish slavery when the war of aggression broke out. He knew slavery was on its way out and all it did was marginalize the south. The war wasn't about slavery anyway it was about states rights, and a bigger grasping for power federal government, similar to what we are starting to see today.
The Emancipation Proclamation didn't prevent British Canada from allowing Confederate spies to conduct operations against the Union.
You'll see that Lincolns emancipation proclamation was done for political purposes more than any other reason, it kept Britain out of the war.
If I recall correctly, some of the Irish-American units that participated in the American Civil War had originally formed as militia units and drilled in preparation for an armed insurrection against British forces in Ireland. That is why when the Civil War broke out these units were already a trained, cohesive fighting force. Their leaders, as did many people, thought the South would capitulate rather quickly, so they agreed to participate as a way to test and harden their soldiers. They had no idea it would be a vicious bloody slog of four years. After the Civil War ended, many of these guys wanted no more part of war, but some did. They formed the Fenian Brotherhood and invaded British Canada several times. The US government turned a blind eye because they were angry the British had recognized the CSA. So when it is convenient for the US government it is acceptable for private citizens to form up and train an army to invade another country, so long as the other country is considered a bad guy. But when the US government makes friends with the other country you are suddenly labeled a terrorist.
Lad....I am waiting for my "deforestation"/reparation checks to start arriving through the algore environmental foundation....I hope they have my right postal code. I almost got into a fracas with Colonel Sanders last time I was in Atlanta.
Will you share Monsoonman? I can't find any Libyan ancestry maybe I should contact the colonel, maybe pretend I'm one of his sons. Had a near accident with one of them in Tripoli he cut me off in his hummer.Tried to give him the bird ,but my son elbowed me (severely) in the ribs and asked if I had a death wish.
I'm just a settin back on my easy chair waitin for the checks to pour in.
Excellent point, seanomelbourne. If we just take the environmental crime of deforesting Ireland it would be worth around 100b.
Libya has just received 5 billion euros from Italy as compensation for the inhuman treatment meted out to the Libyan people during the Italian occupation. When will the Irish receive their compensation for the inhuman treatment they received at the hands of their oppressors.
Sorry Southern Pride, your facts are not accurate. If you are speaking specifically about the recent "Troubles" roughly 1966 until 1990s, more Catholics than Protestants were in fact killed, but they were killed by British Forces, including the Protestant Terrorist groups in the North.
