New immigration reform bill will have national identity card

A national identity card for employers to check is at the heart of the new immigration reform legislation being proposed by Senator Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York and Senator Lindsay Graham, a Republican from South Carolina.
All legal U.S. workers would be issued with the ID card which would have a biometric identification impossible to duplicate.
Schumer and Graham were due to meet President Obama this week to discuss their immigration reform plan which would also allow those here illegally to stay and gain a path to citizenship. However, Graham's plane flight from South Carolina was canceled and the meeting was postponed.
Schumer says the national identity card is the key to getting a bill passed "It's the nub of solving the immigration dilemma politically speaking," Schumer said in an interview in the Wall Street Journal . The card, he said, would make it impossible for any new illegals to find work. "If you say they can't get a job when they come here, you'll stop it." he stated.would become de facto national ID cards that enable the government to track citizens.
However some civil liberty groups object to the card idea. "It is fundamentally a massive invasion of people's privacy," said Chris Calabrese, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. "We're not only talking about fingerprinting every American, treating ordinary Americans like criminals in order to work. We're also talking about a card that would quickly spread from work to voting to travel to pretty much every aspect of American life that requires identification."
Senator Graham disagrees. "We've all got Social Security cards," he said. "They're just easily tampered with. Make them tamper-proof. That's all I'm saying."
President Obama says he wants to see a bipartisan effort before he will tackle the issue.However, Graham to date is the only Republican signing up for the new bill and it faces an uphill struggle.

No pathway to citizenship for the illegal aliens. You go home and enter the country legally.

Tongue in cheek moment: please explain what ""illegal aliens"" look like. Are they little green persons with antennae?; or blobs of gelatinous stuff that sci-fi movies created? I really would like to know what to look for. NOW on the other hand, do you mean illegal immigrants?

(continued) You can save yourself much grief in this process by hitting 'Control' 'C' (for 'copy') BEFORE you hit the 'comment' button...that way if it gives you that annoying 'comment has been sent' notice, you can simply go back to the comment box and hit 'Control' 'V', which will re-paste your entire article. Then, you can edit for length, and/or send the remainder on a follow-up post. Pesky stuff to have to do, but it's a way around this.

beachline and Richards1...I've found that on these 'blog' posts (as opposed to general news), the comments generally have to be significantly shorter in order to be posted. That may be why yours did not post. I've submitted lengthier posts myself and received the 'comment has been sent,' notice, too...I shortened my message and it took.

Yeap, looks like Ireland will have to declare war on the USA to get any bennies. Mexico did it, the mullahs did it, the Iraqiis did it, England did it, The Germans did it and the Japanese.
So, if you want to come here with an "easy pass" and a smooth road to citizenship, you are going to have to declare war on US.

I too submitted a comment that did not violate any guidelines and it did not appear. Website stated" comment submitted" , but, it apparently went into that great black hole of Irish Centrals censorship.

I submitted one post that I think rationally supported Madeleine's "open door" statement. The website just said comment submitted, but the comment never appeared. I don't believe that the comment violated any guidelines.

Govt-issue photo IDs are now required for many things. So this is really just another form of it, with a solid purpose, and even offers the ease of not needing to keep track of the other IDs. We need govt ID to register to vote, to travel by plane or train. No problem, as long as they can make them tamper and forgery proof.

I do know that large groups of Muslims are living in NY and legally, every part of Africa and the souuth Pacific is represented there legally. The Russian influx was big, and legal. The Irish have not been a part of this but they are here now asking for legal status along with the mexicans, they will probably get it, sounds like it. I dont lie and I'm not on drugs, sorry you don't agree with me, that's all you had to say. You are misinformed about immigration in the US.

I have replied ot yuou twice and twice they have been removed. I don't know where you are from but in Broooklyn and the Chicago suburbs , we are loaded with legal immigrants. in two years 3 chinatowns have gone up in Brooklyn. Legally. you name it, they are here leggally, thanks to the UN. thats a fact. to me thats an open door policy.

By open door policy I meant for illegals. They are not afraid to fightofor legal status are they? We all know they are here, 16 million of them, no one is orcing them to leave right? thats what I call an open door policy, especially when we might have to carry an ID card beause of them. I didnt' say anything about them immigrating here legally. the above are the facts, Muslims come here legally so do the Chinese, by the thousands. where are you living?

Well this is what you wanted right? now we not only have an open door policy, believe me it is, but we all have to have an ID which is what our Government wanted. The immigrants won over the Americans, thats wonderful. They'll be as welcome as the flowers in May now. I wish the liberals would contribute something once in awhile instead of taking it from everyone else.

Oh so that's what they mean by "immigration reform". Forcing Americans to carry around "national identity cards". The Founding Fathers would be so proud of that idea. Ben Franklin was once asked what kind of government the American people were going to get. His famous reply was, "A Republic. IF you can keep it."
