Duchess Catherine and Prince William announce they're pregnant
Duchess Catherine and Prince William announce they're pregnant

The news of Kate Middleton’s pregnancy will cause great joy across Britain and indeed many parts of the world.

But nowhere will it be greeted with more anticipation than in the world’s gossip-crazed media, crazy for the next royal story.

And this is the big one, the next heir to the throne, a great-grandchild for the Queen, and the latest member of “the lucky sperm club” as Warren Buffet so memorably described those born into wealth.

So forget, dear world, about the serious issues facing us such as fiscal cliffs, Afghanistan, and European meltdowns.

It is going to be wall-to-wall coverage of the running of the Royals, as every useless piece of trivia and gossip is flung onto the pages of every newspaper in the known world.

As least we know who the parents are in this case which seems to be a major point of contention with Prince Harry who bears as stunning resemblance to Princess Di’s lover of five years, the cad James Hewitt.

Hewitt you remember tried to sell 64 letters from Lady Di for $10 million when he ran into financial difficulties.

We doubt if William and Kate will have any problems like that but then again, they are human beings after all, not some celestial beings as some media would have us believe.

So we await with bated breath the birth of The Special One. Meanwhile the world turns and famines, fires, foreign conflicts all continue unabated.

All changed because a child is born, not in a manger, mind but a palace.

...and besides Patrick, this is called a 'baby' this time, not a blob of tissue, or 'a choice'. Additionaly, the parents are married now, not shacking up, and the Dad is still around to take responsibility whether he is prince or pauper. Would be a happier world if this was how all babies could find themselves. Ireland take note...
Add yet another one to the "royal" welfare roll. It's a great gig.
How about sparing us all and not report on it
'cad',who uses words like 'cad' these days, - even if that what he is we've moved to 'love rat' or 'sexy sneak' decades ago. Fortunately in all the furor about the baby Mr. Roberts will keep us grounded with all the latest from the fiscal cliff, global conflict, impending eurozone implosion and the latest from the Myan calendar! - Thanks Patrick.
I have no problem hearing about the baby. Everything can't be gloom and doom, ya know! And quit dissing Hillary;she is awesome!
Yeah, Patrick, - what they all said! Shame on you! You low cur! ~~~ @Gob: Don't be surprised. Given Niall's track record of having described Catherine as a 'brood mare', he probably fell off his stool (again) when he read this copy. We await his Post from the 'stud farm' angle. Spot on! @jamieLM.
Surprised that there isn't just a little room for joy in your sad bigoted and sectarian little story. Thought you might be happy to see a Colonel in the Irish Guards and Baron Carrickfergus become a dad, or perhaps this website is only for the narrow minded English hating verion of "Irish"...
Agree with Jamie and Siobhan, some of the tripe in this 'article' is more appropriate to the National Enquirer. Surprised Niall sanctioned it.
@Siobhan39 - good post. Patrick Roberts: Boy, are you mean-spirited. Something joyful for the Brits and you have a hissy fit. If this story is so not newsworthy, why did you write a column about it??? I can't believe you'd stoop so low as to recycle that worn out untruthful story about Harry's parentage. Are you writing for IC or the National Enquirer? You sound like you have a royal case of sour grapes. The world has a lot more dire problems than the future birth of a baby - even a royal one. Get over yourself.
And you, Patrick Roberts, could hardly wait to join the line of those writing up the story. You are the reason stories like this have lives of their own. You can't wait to write these stories, and then criticize others for doing the same thing.
Could be worse.....Hillary Clinton could be pregnant.
Lord, spare us!
