Orange Order calls for protest against Pope's visit to England

Bookmark and Share

The bowler hats are at it again!

The Orange Order in Ireland has called on its members to protest the Pope's upcoming visit to England.

And it says that anyone welcoming Pope Benedict XVI in September should be warned that they are acknowledging "his primacy and universal supremacy as Vicar of Christ on earth."

Well that's that then.

The Grand Orange Lodge says it recognizes the Pope's right to visit but says it must object on Biblical grounds.

Apparently the Lodge doesn't mind the Pope paying a visit to his flock because it "recognises the civil and religious rights of all."

Well, not to take a cheap shot lads, but if you recognize the civil and religious rights of all why are you protesting?

Just asking like.

I am out raged that this man should invited to this country, and whats worse at our expense, i believe that he should be arrested when his feet hit the tar mac for crimes against umanity, and thats only a start!as a 60 year old man my thoughts and opinions have become very moderate, as there was a time i would have had him burned at the stake!!as an Ulsterman living in England, The English never fail to surprise me with there attitude of no stance, no protest, in fact total surrender, it is my opinion that this once great country is being sold down the river, it is time to take a stand and let your voices be heard. No surrender!!
buy him a pint and sell him a sweater! what's the big deal??
Gee, maybe we can "dialog" with them.
Maybe the Vatican can "dialog" with them; after all the last 40 plus years of "dialoging" produced such great results for the Catholic Church.
Richard Dawkins the prominent scientist / atheist also seems to be supporting the Make The Pope Pay protest http://richarddawkins.net/articles/5024
There is now a Protest The Pope website organised by various groups not including the Orange Order:- http://www.protest-the-pope.org.uk/
The full statement from Grand Lodge can be read here:- http://www.orange-order.co.uk/chronicle/forum/viewtopic.php?id=20316
The National Secular Society, British Humanist Association and various Gay Rights groups including Outrage and Stonewall are all protesting. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article7012758.ece
Prominent Gay rights activist Peter Tatchell has a petition on the 10 downing Street website:- http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ProtestthePope/
Englands true national heritage is Catholic not Protestant.
Why is it Irish Americans are always calling the UK `England`. Do you not study geography? The Pope is visiting Great Britian, that is England, Scotland & Wales. The UK is GB plus Northern Ireland.
Perhaps they just like protesting....
