Israel’s Danny Danon says Irelands Freedom Flotilla was funded by terrorists

The “Freedom Flotillas” that got such widespread coverage in the media the last couple of years as they tried to penetrate an Israeli blockade of Gaza, was linked to terror organizations, according to Israeli leader Danny Danon. Several people were killed during violent confrontations between Israeli forces and Flotilla participants. Flotilla Ships were boarded, commandeered and searched before their contents were allowed passage on to Gaza.

Danon, a powerful and popular Israeli leader, sat down and talked to us on a range of issues. His rising political power and nationalistic views, will probably be major factors in Israel policy moving forward.

Knowing Israel has vaunted intelligence services, I asked Mr. Danon if he knew who funded the flotillas. Unhesitatingly he replied: “There was a definite linkage between the flotillas and terrorists organizations.”

Of course one mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist.

I told Mr. Danon that many people in Ireland are sympathetic towards those they perceive as being occupied or repressed and naturally want to see some settlement to the Gaza and West Bank situation in Palestine/Israel. Ireland looks at its own occupation by Britain for hundreds of years and sees some comparison to the situation in Gaza, either rightly or wrongly. We know it is a far more complicated issue, but perception is key.

Since Irish activists were key in these flotillas and crewed ships such as The Rachel Corrie and the MV Saoirse, which embarked from Ireland, it was a natural question to ask Danon if he thought Ireland was a base for anti Israel sentiment?

Danon replied: “I don’t think you can label Ireland as anti Israel or a terrorist base. We have many good friends in Ireland who support us. So it is not Ireland per se, but a terror threat can emanate from any country and we take measures for our security as needed and necessary, no matter where a threat may emanate from.”

I asked Danon, if Israel had been under the control of a Danny Danon government, would he have reacted any differently to Flotillas trying to penetrate Israel’s security ring around Gaza?

“These flotillas were not seeking any type of humanitarian support, they were seeking confrontation” I think we should have handled it differently, just like any free and democratic country would have done. If someone tries to enter your state without permission…You stop him, no matter what.”

He went on: “Because we were not sure about what we should do, our reaction was not strong enough” As a result our actions encouraged more activities like these, to actually seek confrontation and nothing else.”

Of course you reached out to the UN for support during this time and particularly the United States, your ally. We noticed that US Ambassador Susan Rice, didn’t bother to show up for the emergency meeting, what gives with that?

“When Ambassador Rice didn’t show up to the emergency meeting on the flotilla, it brought a realization to us that we have to rely only on ourselves. We know we have the US citizens support, but the White House administration doesn’t understand what we are faced with.”

"The American citizens know who is good and bad. Israel is being attacked for having the same values as our shared democracies. Because we are in the neighborhood, we are first to confront the very forces aligned against us and the very existence of the United States."

Part 3 will discuss Israels new bonanza of natural gas and what it means to be not only energy independent but to be a huge exporter of this product. Will they go all out and exploit this resource, or will they be hamstrung by the same forces who fight Americas energy producers?

Also a glimpse into Israeli gun control laws, are they strict about it? Do they have the same type of gun violence in their country that the US is experiencing?

There is in Israel at present a large sect of Jews who say "God tells them they cannot work but only read the torah all day." They are also fighting on the same grounds that they are exempt from the Israeli army. This information can be found all over the internet. This sect is causing a huge fight in Israel at the moment, but sadly this sect is now draining our part of the USA. In actual fact they are extremely wealthy controlling the diamond market and God knows what else, but they put a shrine in one room of their home, live in large communities, having huge families of ten and upwards and declare themselves a religious community thus paying no taxes while the other half of the American community has to pay for them. They are almost all on welfare and are suffering from extreme inbreeding disabilities which is also being passed onto the American taxpayer, namely us. It should be noted that this is a unique, but very powerful group in the Jewish community. Indeed most Jews around the world have just assimilated into their surrounding societies and they are the first to find fault with this particular group. We can only wonder why this particular group has traveled world wide but remained insular and never made an attempt to assimilate or contribute to their host country. To us Palestinians are being subjected to the same holocaust perpetrated on the Jews by some Germans. I say some because in both cases it is a small group that is causing the problems. Many Germans died fighting Hitler and many Jews world wide are fighting these Zionists. My question to this particular group is "If God told you you cannot work but only read the torah all day, did an all loving God tell you who was going to support your lifestyle. It doesn't make any sense to us and I can tell you we Americans in our area want you to get out and get a job and admit to what you truly own. I am sure this totally honest remark will be censured by the Israeli lobby.

Perhaps if the jihadist mentality didnt rule and corrupt the people in the area, the Jews and Palestinians could work out a liveable and prosperous arrangement. but since they vote in folks who vow to annihilate the Jews, the Jews will do what they have to do to defend themselves

I'm loath to comments on articles such as this as they are undeserving of publicity but here goes. Is there one paragraph in this piece that doesn't contain a factual mistake? For example, the MV Saoirse did NOT embark from Ireland. Contents of the ships were NOT "allowed passage on to Gaza". Has the writer heard of punctuation? Apostrophes and commas are very useful for those plying their trade in the media. As for Danon's risible claims that the Flotilla were funded by "terrorists organisations" (sic) - too ridiculous for words. The Flotillas were never trying to enter Israel, indeed it was the Israeli military that brought the crews there. He says: “Because we were not sure about what we should do, our reaction was not strong enough” -Is Danon saying they didn't kill enough people on the Mavi Marmara? Just this week the UN released a report that Gaza will be "unlivable" by 2020 if the illegal, immoral siege continues - if this is what people like Danon are advocating, then you're welcome to such fascist ideology.

Mr. Farnan publishing rubbish on behalf of people like Mr. Danons is not being on the right. Since the time of Ben Gurion, the behavior of the Israeli regime has been Jekyll and Hyde. In the 1950s, its intelligence service, the Mossad, had agents in Egypt blow up U.S. installations to make it appear the work of Cairo, to destroy U.S. relations with the new Nasser government. During the Six Day War, Israel ordered repeated attacks on the undefended USS Liberty that killed 34 American sailors and wounded 171 and included the machine-gunning of life rafts. This massacre was neither investigated nor punished by the U.S. government in an act of national cravenness. Though we have given Israel $20,000 for every Jewish citizen, Israel refuses to stop building the settlements that are the cause of the Palestinian intifada. Likud has dragged our good name through the mud and blood of Ramallah, ignored Bush’s requests to restrain itself, and sold U.S. weapons technology to China, including the Patriot, the Phoenix air-to-air missile, and the Lavi fighter, which is based on F-16 technology. Only direct U.S. intervention blocked Israel’s sale of our AWACS system. To conclude Israel is our ally but we will not be vassals to far right extremists like Danons or Netanyahu. By the way the USA gives $6,000,000,000 a year to Israel for its military. Mr Danons displays the undying ingratitude of the jewish people toward the USA.

More drivel and uninformed "interviewing". For example, the Israeli spokeman says "If someone tries to enter your state without permission… You stop him, no matter what." But NO ONE was trying to enter Israel,and of course Farnan didn't pick him up on this lie. Those folks were trying to get to Gaza, thru international waters. They were KIDNAPPED and taken to Israel. Come on Irish Central, Fire Farnan. We can forgive journalistic incompetence in your 20 year-old interns, but this guy is old enough to have no excuse.
