The Honan Chapel, UCC
Here's a strange one to start the week with.

According to Irish third level website StudentNews.ie, University College Cork -- better known for recently accumulating such accolades as a five star quality rating from QS, and the Sunday Times Irish University of the Year -- is in fact also playing host to a satanic religious institution on its main campus.

The Honan Chapel, known to students as the on-campus chapel, and also a popular wedding venue for those a little past their college-going years, boasts eerie satantic imagery according to this video from YouTube.

According to the piece's description: "You will see [in the chapel] great sun (lucifer worship) and zodiac on the entrance, in the midle of chapel there is a big mosaic of serpant-dragon (lucifer himself). There is also lots of occult symbols all over the chapel."

Even by YouTube standards the camera-work is decidedly dodgy, but the uploader does go to the trouble of giving us curious watchers a walk-in tour of the facility, highlighting the satantic imagery which he listed out in the video's description.

To be honest the video is pretty weird, and having been in said Chapel many times, I would be alarmed to find out that I was in fact in some sort of ancient Satantic ritual-house, but the story is strange enough to have piqued my interest, as well as that of a local education correspondent, who is trying in earnest to convince a no doubt skeptical editor to run the story; if successful, it could be the talk of the town

Irish witches celebrate annual Wiccan festival

On a similarly occult tack, Ireland's Wiccan and Pagan community recently celebrated its annual festival - Féile Draíochta - an annual celebration of all that's 'witch' and Pagan related in Ireland.

The festival took place in the Camden Court Hotel yesterday.

Organised by two modern-day witches, the festival apparently provided an interesting glimpse into everything occult in Ireland.

One of the organizers, explaining Wicca to the Irish Times journalist, likened it to a kind of healing religion, explaining that: "Wicca is a kind of religion,” says Lee, “but it’s also a craft – it encompasses the practice and creation of magic. We practise sympathetic magic, using items like candles or crystals or herbs to create spells. We celebrate the cycle of the year: we observe the four major fire festivals and the four solar festivals, and those are our main meeting rituals. Wicca ritual is about celebrating the Earth, channelling positive energies and creating healing. There’s no dogma or written creed in Wicca: it’s very free and it allows for difference in experience, in practice and in perception.”

For those curious enough to watch the UCC video and judge for themselves whether or not it's a Santaic Church, see below:

God the Father, the Lamb of God, Celtic Knotwork, the sun, moon, and stars, imagery, candles and worst of all..LATIN!!! Nothing Catholic about that, for sure ;)
The Honan Chapel is a stuningly beautiful building, inside and out; a national treasure. What abysmal stupidity on the part of IC to treat this student prank, i.e., posting a youtube purporting to expose a satanic church as news. It is, unfortunately, what we have come to expect of IC. I will credit the videographer with providing rare views of the beautiful artistry and piquing my interest in the chapel.
I knew it was Satanic when the fish were not COD!!!!!! Those are Satanic Haddock!
The mosaics are a perfect example of Celtic revival.Celtic imagery and art mixed with a Christian theme.I think we can safely walk on the floor without been possessed by the devil.
What beautiful mosaics! The river going the entire length of the main aisle is stunning. Next trip I definitely will visit.
I have been in there too on a few occasions but I never recall looking at the floor. Are you sure it was always there? Well it probably hasn't been a recent addition and both my being late on arrival to most services coupled with the place probably being packed as most likely my visit was also encouraged by assessments that take place in the institution associated with the chapel would have had me looking upwards and onwards for a spot that provided a speedy exit. Lovely Book of Kells-like feeling as I watched the video. Thank you for sharing, I'll definitely visit again and this time be more observant.
Really one would find something to compare ancient beleifs with. Christ was called the Sun of Justice which is light bearer.
The floor layout, design & artwork is beautiful, even if the symbolism isn't particularly Christian, but the catholic church have always incorporated aspects of paganism & indigenous beliefs into their church throughout the world in order to appeal to & convert the natives. Even the Jesus story is based on older pagan myths.
its an incredibly beautifull place full of incredible imagery.who knows what religious people of any faith would fit into it,they are all as mad as a bag of cats..
If you seek God, you'll find for He is everywhere. If you seek the Devil, you'll find him too, even in places he isn't, along with Communists, leprechauns, freemasons, Martians and members of ACORN.
If true, just a harmless bit of ecumenism? ... Probably a publicity stunt on the part of the Cork tourist office. Lovely depiction of the sacred salmon of the old Celts in the stream on the floor.
How ridiculous. Even an elementary reading of the Latin would show that there is nothing satanic about the artwork. The sun has a very definite Christian symbolism- Christ is referred to as the "Sun of Justice"; Zachariah called Christ the One who will visit us like the dawn from on high...Who will give light to those in darkness, those who dwell in the shadow of death.
My mother from Mayo always said those Corkonians were divils!!
Believe what you want, but take a closer look in every catholic church, we have walked on floors without really ever looking.
