"Twilight" star Taylor Lautner has signed on for Irish director John Moore's action movie, "Northern Lights."

Lautner, who last night picked "Breakout Male Actor" at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles, will play a pilot in "Northern Lights" which starts filming in April.

Lautner was the only lead "Twilight" star to actually show up at the People's Choice awards in the Nokia Theatre. Both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart skipped the event.

The 17-year-old "Twilight" star is reportedly being paid $7.45m for his "Northern Lights" role putting him on track for a more lucrative career than many stars double his age.

The movie is centered on "four young pilots as they compete against the world’s best" which would definitely play to Taylor's strengths like his awesome physicality.

And Irish director Payne is well used to putting young stars through their paces with his director's role in "Max Payne," "The Omen," and "Behind Enemy Lines."

The producers say the film is about "teamwork, sacrifice, loss, and victory," (nothing new to a young vampire!) and that the pilots "push themselves to physical and emotional limits in the unforgiving world of performance aerobatics."
