John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston have decided that they will welcome their baby boy into the world, later this month, with a traditional "silent" birth.

The Scientology tradition involves a ceremony which aims to help their son avoid things that will "haunt" him as he grows up.

A source told PopEater "The couple will follow the church's guidelines during delivery...
No music, no talking and no screaming will be allowed during the pains of labour. Also their new son cannot be prodded for medical tests or spoken to for the first seven days of his life...You don't want to do anything that will haunt them for the rest of their lives."

Their son, who will be called Benjamin, is due in the next few weeks. Last week Travolta denied rumors that his wife was already in labor.

Isn't it fantastic that she and her husband have had a new baby? Such great news. As for the "source" interviewed...perhaps you should try getting a source who has actually read a basic book on Scientology. I mean this is on the same level of running a story on Economics in which a 'source' says, "You know, money actually grows on trees; bankers grow them in 'secret ceremonies'," etc... I think it's time people stopped talking drivel about Scientology.
as an Ex-Scientologist I can so much of what Scientology publishes on its web sites about any given subject is pure propaganda and misinformation. Hubbard was a quack and a Failed Husband and Father and so are his theory's about raising children.
Scientology is for wackos. So is Catholicism actually..... Wackos united.
Wow, there's a lot of Scientologists on here!! SCARY....very SCARY!! Didn't realize you were all "into" current info on Ireland. Please don't invade that beautiful country with all your nonsensical policies. And since Kelly isn't allowed to scream (like most do in labor) just what do they do so that she won't.....hmmmmm!!
..is there anything, anything funnier than a scientologist trying to validate what is basically, at root, a cult that came to rise from a strange man who had a dream of creating a profitable religion? Scientologists, you are not fooling anyone. Your founder was a crooked hack, a failed Sci Fi writer who scammed thousands of lonely souls into handing money over fist over fist for books, tests and other rubbish. Do you actually BELIEVE that 'Thetan' rubbish? seriously? I would feel sorry for you if you weren't so clinically stupid. Just plain stupid. When you first did your stupid little personality test, did you not think it was a LITTLE suspicious when the 'church' started to ask you for money for books, study aids and further tests. Kind of a give away, no? Seriously - cop on.
"You don't want to do anything that will haunt them for the rest of their lives" sayeth the Article. Pity our Catholic grandparents in Ireland hadn't given Scientology a spin close to fifty years ago. Every one of us boys had to carry a holy medal of Dominic Savio (an Italian boy Saint)in our pocket at all times. And the girls wore a Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel dutifully blessed. There were spot-checks on occasion stopping by the house to ensure we were upholding the Faith. The cousins and ourselves wax lyrical on those days still. Haunted on a first kiss or date by Dominic in the pocket or The Blessed Virgin "Stay away from the nonsense of the Picture House (the Cinema) and pubs" our grandparents intoned. Alas and Mea Culpa. We didn't. May they rest in peace. If Scientology is regarded 'a cult' with peculiar observance and ceremony take a look at Irish Catholicism. Take a look at ALL of it. Veils, turbans, this or that insignia. I highly recommened Karen Armstong's world wide acclaimed book 'A History of God' and Brad Gooch's 'Godtalk: Travels in Spiritual America' None of us threw out the medals or scapulars. They are in a drawer someplace and cherished. Slainte.
So they've infected Ireland.
The truth about Scientology Silent Birth: scientologyparent.com
Sadly, this article repeats tired old hate-speech against the Scientology religion and Scientologists. It's blatantly false throughout. There is no such thing as the "ceremony" the article reports. A birthing mother can holler and scream all she needs to! (As if anyone could stop her!) Scientologists' newborns get ALL standard medical testing and prodding. And, during their first days, Scientologists' newborns endure all the same cooing, hugging, squeezing, loving parent-talk, bonding, and even silly relatives saying Goo-Goo as does any other kid. So, dear reporter, I'm sorry but your "source" for your quadruply wrong statements you printed was either woefully ignorant and pretending knowledge not present, or purposefully lying to use you to spread her/his bigotry against a new religious movement. If you ever want to verify something about Scientology, here's an idea. Call a Scientology mission or church. Much Love! ROC
"The baby is exposed to bright lights, prodding and poking" The kid might as well get used to it early if he/she expects to go through security at airports.
AND, of course, a new born MUST be spoken to (hopefully) in terms of welcome and love. He/she is being welcomed into a world of suddenly bright lights, prodding and poking and being dried with (to the baby) extremely rough towels (or similar). Such does not make for a happy experience. It is obscene to suggest no one talks to new born for 7 days. Of course, parents and others talk to a new born. FYI: Scientologists see doctors, take medicine and pain killers as is needed.
About 5 years ago, a blogger posted grotesquely inaccurate ideas of what he/she thought was "silent" birth. Unfortunately, others of good will repeated that and it became "everyone knows" -- but not true. Of course a woman will shout and (perhaps) scream during giving birth. That's expected. What is not good for the child are the words doctors and nurses or midwives use, such as "Push harder" or "Hmmm. doesn't look good" etc. Later in life those words can be stimulated and become (like) post hypnotic commands that dictate how a person feels and thinks. Example: "doesn't look good" might (later in life) causes a person to worry about his/her looks and (possibly) get unnecessary plastic surgery to "look better." For correct information, including what medical doctors who are NOT Scientologists write about quite, calm birthing environments, visit scientologyparent.com
this is garbage. Not talk to a baby for 7 days how does the baby bond with anyone?how do you comfort a the baby. With their other sons medical problems they should worry and the sooner he is checked medically the better!
Scientology is a farce end of that
Another cult. Scientology has a nice ring to it though, sounds like it is really based in a fact.lol!
