The 75-year-old actor has failed to pay the mortgage for a year on the £1.4 million house – which comes with 4.5 acres of land – and is being taken to court for owing Merrill Lynch Credit Corporation around £730,000.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper, the loan was taken out in 1994 by the 'Boogie Nights' actor, and the lawsuit was filed at the Martin County Circuit court on August 9.

Two years ago he put the 12,500 square foot mansion – which features a private beach a boat deck and its own hair salon – up for sale for £5.4 million.

Burt is not the only star to recently face problems with paying their mortgage.

'I Believe I Can Fly' hitmaker R. Kelly had a foreclosure filed against him by JPMorgan Chase Bank for £1.6 million in June after failing to pay back his home loan for a year.

According to Crain's Chicago business news, the house - which is based in the Olympia Fields suburb of the city - lost 26 per cent of its value in 2009, plummeting from £3.1 million to £2.3 million.

kick him out. he's no better than anyone else.
Can't recognize the man from earlier times! What is it, cut, lift and stitch?
Nice pic Amy, you look like a blowup sex doll.
Bogside, with respect you`re using a very wide brush there. Lots of ordinary folk just bought council type housing, hardly over the top considering it being the first time they have ever entered into a transaction exceeding the purchase of a car or the likes. Add to that the sales pitch, that should they not afford the payments at a later date they could resell and pocket a profit.
And Burt is Irish American? So this is why this is on IC.
He had a bad hairpiece addiction. Very sad. Hairpiece addiction has ruined so many lives and families.
I'm Irish and the wife and I are quite frugal. Our household motto is LIVE SIMPLY SO OTHERS MAY SIMPLY LIVE.
Burt Reynolds acting legend. yea right. b list at the best no matter how much dreck he turns out for decades. i just dont care for actors who end up playing caricatures of themselves. John Wayne comes to mind. he made a few really good movies, then all he could play was the arrogant cowboy tough guy
Bogsidebunny, This liberal (me) is very frugal,so to paint all liberals in the same way as you conservatives are fond of due is the height of ignorance. Burt Reynolds doesn't mean all liberal actors are as bad as him with financial management and not all conservative actors are the paragon of virtue themselves just because they are conservative. And I would like to see what na hEireannaigh (the Irish)in general themselves have to say about your blanket stereotyping of them. People are quite capable of learning frugality if they have to. But it's true that too many people get fantasies about acquiring wonderful things that are beyond their means. And not every one has the means to go see every movie that comes out in the theatres. And if movies starring so and so don't bring in the required big cash at box offices, then I guess it's time to cut lose some actors and actresses who may no longer have the health and or the stamina movie producing with its long hours demands of them.
Ole smokey and the Bandit reynolds did what a lot of Irish have done. Let their emotions blot out common sense and buy beyond their means. Then they have the audacity to blame the banks. Personal Responsibility is the key. That trait is lacking in 1) Liberal actors, 2) The Irish in general.
