Sports Digest Sweet 3000

Irish star Tony McCoy finally secured his 3,000th career victory on Monday when the 13-time champion jockey partnered Nicky Henderson's Restless D'Artaix to victory in the Tyser and Co. Beginners' Chase at Plumpton. The 34-year-old McCoy had been stuck on 2,998 winners since January 29 but moved within one on Hello Moscow earlier in the day. Already the national hunt jockey with the most wins in a career, McCoy has won the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the King George in a glorious past but the Grand National has eluded him. Afterwards McCoy said, "It's not something I'm going to play down - I am ecstatic. All 3,000 winners have taken a lot of hard work. "It's very easy to be driven when you are lucky enough to do a job you love. I am lucky to have been supported by a number of great people over the years." In other racing news, Denman's joint-owner Harry Findlay has confirmed that Sam Thomas will keep the ride in the Cheltenham Gold Cup despite speculation that Tony McCoy would be offered the ride.
