Andrew Hendrix may have been a relatively unknown name to many college football fans and Notre Dame Enthusiasts. That all changed on Saturday in Notre Dame’s convincing victory over Air Force.

The wily sophomore quarterback finally got his number called against the Falcons relieving Tommy Rees of his duties for a couple of series. Hendrix surely capitalized on his opportunities and more completing all four of his passes for 30 yards and rushing for 111 yards, including a 80 yard score in the fourth quarter.

It must have come as a relief to the highly touted prospect who had waited over a year and a half on the sidelines for a chance to prove himself. Hendrix knew that he would rise to the occasion.

"I was really excited to get in to be able to show what I had, let everyone else know, because I felt like I was confident in my abilities. Just to let everyone else see that I can do this really felt good."

Notre Dame's Brian Kelly talks about maximizing the team's strength ahead of USC game

Did Notre Dame run up the score against Air Force after first half rout?

Kelly utilized Hendrix for his speed and mobility that serve as a good counterbalance to the play of Tommy Rees.

"All I know is, you're going to have to defend him because he's pretty good," Kelly said. "We are just going to continue to utilize him to strengthen Tommy's hand.

"With both of those guys, and Tommy obviously being (in) 85-90 percent of the game, it just gives you another dimension of our offense that, if you're not prepared for it, you can see what happens."

Hendrix has instilled confidence in his coach who looks to integrate Hendrix in his gameplan against USC next week.

"So he went in every time we had success with plays and things were moving positively, and he's ready to play against USC. I don't have to be concerned about what his makeup and demeanor would be inserting him into the USC game."
