Irish rugby star Brian O’Driscoll has recently signed a deal with Penguin Ireland to write his autobiography. The celebrated rugby player will write alongside award-winning journalist Paul Kimmage in the new project.

O’Driscoll, who is well-decorated with championship medals and honors, is excited about the new venture. RTE reports that he said “I really look forward to working with Paul and the team at Penguin Ireland. It is an exciting new challenge and one that I relish.”

O’Driscoll is most noted for his Grand Slam winning title as captain, and has also won two Heineken Cup medals while playing for Leinster. Throughout his career he has won 123 Test caps (117 for Ireland and 6 for the British and Irish Lions) and has been captain for Ireland, Leinster, and the Lions.

Paul O’Connell, Ireland’s rugby captain, commits for another two years

Irish rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll’s career may be over

“Apart from leading Ireland to the only second ever Grand Slam, he was also captain for four Triple Crown triumphs and scored 46 international tries, the highest of all time in Irish rugby,” says RTE.

He was named player of the tournament for the 2006, 2007, and 2009 RBS Six Nations Championships, and was voted World Rugby player of the decade for 2000-2009 by World Rugby magazine.

The Independent reports that the rugby star’s book will not be released until after O’Driscoll retires. Currently, he is sidelined with a shoulder injury which will force him to sit-out this year’s Six Nations.
