Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has received his first call-up to the Ireland squad ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier in Germany.

Elliot has been called in as a late replacement for injured Birmingham City keeper Darren Randolph who withdrew late on Saturday night with a shoulder injury.

Interim boss Noel King has finalised his 23 man squad for the final World Cup games away to Germany and home to Kazakhstan.

Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney is included after proving his fitness in playing 90 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

But Jon Walters will be medically assessed at Stoke City before any decision is made on his availability.

Paul McShane, Stephen Quinn and Paul Green drop out from the provisional squad named by King but will remain on standby.
