Muhammad Ali to host Dublin dinner on Irish visit

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali is in Ireland and getting ready for his fundraiser dinner in Dublin Monday night.

The sporting icon landed in Dublin Monday morning local time and said he was "excited" about being in the Emerald Isle.

The 67-year-old and his wife Lonnie were chauffeur-driven to the Ballsbridge Court Hotel, where Ali will host "An Evening with the Greatest," which will raise funds for the Alltech-Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund.

Fundraising will also take place at the event for the Jack and Jill Foundation and the Irish Rugby Charitable Trust.

Ali will take in a tour of the Aviva Stadium (The rebuilt/renamed Lansdowne Road stadium) in Dublin on Tuesday morning before flying down to Shannon.

Ali will visit the ancestral home of his great-grandfather, Abe Grady, Ennis in County Clare Tuesday afternoon.

Abe Grady came from the Turnpike road in the town and emigrated to the United States in the 1860s.

Ali will be made the first honorary freeman of Ennis at a civic reception before taking a drive though the town center on his way to the house of his great-grandfather.

A tree will be unveiled near Abe Grady's home to commemorate the visit of the boxing legend.
