James Moore to fight Pawel Wolak at Yankee Stadium in New York on June 5

James Moore (17-2,10 kos) will take on Pawel Wolak (26-1, 17kos) on the undercard of the Yuri Foreman/Miguel Cotto WBA light middleweight title fight on June 5 at Yankee Stadium.

Wicklow native James Moore, who will take on New Jersey-based Pole in a ten round contest at a catchweight of 156lbs.

Moore, who was last in action in a win over Joseph de Los Santos last May, had planned to move up to middleweight, but the high profile fight at the 156-pound catchweight was too good to turn down.

Moore has been in the gym since September after he decided to refocus after a few months break from boxing.

Since then he has seen three prospective fights fall through, but a contract was awaiting for his signature on it Tuesday at Gleason’s Gym, and Moore knows that if he can win against the WBA number nine ranked fighter, his career could receive a significant boost.

Despite his inactivity, Moore and trainer Lennox Blackmore have been working hard in the gym, and unlike the hit-and-run style of Yuri Foreman that Moore could not figure out in his December 2008 loss, Wolak is a better match.

“Style-wise he is perfect for me.  He will plan on walking straight through me.  I think I am a better boxer than he is.  He wears his opponents down. This guy is playing into exactly what we (Moore and Blackmore) have been planning for,” Moore told the Voice Monday.

Moore thinks that the Wolak camp might be taking his challenge lightly and the 32-year-old believes if he had more fights under his belt this match would not be taking place.

Moore knows how important this fight is for his career. “Realistically, I have to win this fight, and if I don’t win this fight it will pretty much be the end.” He will head to the Poconos for training camp closer to the fight.
