Dubliner in with chance of winning $9 million at World Series of Poker’s Main Event

When the final table of Poker's main event, the November Nine, lays its cards Irishman Eoghan O'Dea will be at the table on the final day of play in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old Dubliner will hold the second highest stack when play resumes on November 5 after finishing earlier this week with just under 34 million in chips.

Fans will recall he will be the first Irish representative at the final table since Belfast-born Andy 'The Monk' Black finished fifth in 2005.

One of just nine players still standing from the 6,865 contestants who paid the $10,000 entry fee on July 7, O’Dea is guaranteed around $782,000.

And if if luck is with him in November he could pick up the $8.7 million check reserved for the tournament winner.

Speaking to ESPN.com, O’Dea said the honor of winning poker’s biggest event was as much a prize as the check itself.

'You dream to win the WSOP main event,' he said. 'It’s the best in poker and that would be pretty amazing for me, to win it.'
