“As he is now no longer a license holder with the board we shall not be sending a representative to look after his interests over such things as the rules and regulations, which would be the normal practice.”
Rohan said of Macklin’s decision, “Obviously with Matthew now based in the U.S. and having signed a promotional deal with Lou DiBella, it makes sense for him to be licensed there. Boxers generally hold a boxing license from the territory in which they are based and that is what Matthew is doing in this case.
“The decision doesn't prohibit him from fighting either in Ireland or in the U.K. again in the future, so it was simply a logistical decision.”
