Anger towards Harrington on European Tour may cost him Ryder Cup place

It will be no surprise if Padraig Harrington is left off the Ryder Cup team for October 1st two Irish professionals have said.

Peter Lawrie and former Ryder Cup player Paul McGinley have stated that tensions about Harrington and three others who play in the U.S. tour are very evident.

Lawrie says it will be 'no surprise' if Harrington is not picked by captain Colm Montgmery. Harrington has not qualified for the team and would have to be a captain's pick

"If it was me, I would pick Padraig but then there are an awful lot of rumours going around that he is not going to be picked," said Lawrie.

"If so, then the general public in Ireland will be shocked but the guys who are out here competing, and hearing what I am hearing, won't be shocked,"

This weekend Harrington is playing at the Fed Ex tournament in New Jersey rather than trying to qualify at the final European tour event in Scotland as are the English trio of Paul Casey, Luke Donald and Justin Rose .

European pros are incensed and say the foursome have shown no loyalty to the European team this year.

McGinley said European players are upset at the Fed Ex four as they are being called,

"You only have to stand on that range for half-an-hour and you get an ear-bashing for sure," he said.

"Colin is going to pick three strong players no matter what and yes, there are going to be players disappointed, but what can he do," said McGinley.

"Players he thought would be in the team just have not qualified, so he's in this predicament through no fault of his own. But having said that, no matter what three he picks, it is not going to weaken our European team, we are going to have a hell of a strong team -- on paper, probably the strongest team we've ever had.

"If you up add our world rankings and divide that by 12, I think you will find that the world ranking average is probably the lowest that any team has ever produced."
