Watch Padraig do the Happy Gilmore!

Bookmark and Share

Padraig Harrington mixed a bit of science and slapstick recently undergoing tests to prove whether the Happy Gilmore swing really works!

The triple major winner showed he was up for a bit of experimentation when he put the Happy Gilmore swing (made famous in the movie of the same name starring Adam Sandler) to the test at a driving range.

The Happy Gilmore swing involves a run up to the ball before swinging, as opposed to the conventional swing, where one swings from a stationary position.

No doubt the hurling Harrington did as a youngster stood to him, as the 37-year-old actually hit his Happy Gilmore an average 30 yards longer than his regular swing!

But, and this is where it gets a bit technical, Harrington argues that he may get the distance but the Happy Gilmore swing may not be as accurate as the conventional one.

Not that Harrington's conventional swing has been helping him out lately. The two-time British open winner missed the cut at last week's Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

However, maybe the weekend off will do the Dubliner good as he heads to the Players Championship at Sawgrass later this week.  In the meantime, enjoy Padraig doing his Happy Gilmore!
