Village of Camp devastated by tragic death

A West Kerry footballer who collapsed during a match on Sunday has died in a Cork hospital.
Brendan ‘Bawnie’ O’Driscoll from Camp was playing for his Annascaul club when he fell to the ground.

The 28-year-old had scored a goal and a point to help his team into a 1-4 to 0-4 lead over neighbors Lispole in the West Kerry championship.

The popular footballer was rushed by ambulance to Kerry General Hospital then transferred to the University Hospital in Cork when he failed to respond to treatment.

His family were at his bedside in Cork when he died on Wednesday having never regained consciousness.

Chairman of the West Kerry Board John Lenihan, Brendan’s former trainer, described how the local community has been devastated by the tragedy.

“Bawnie was a great sportsman who always loved training,” said Lenihan.
