Tiger Woods set to play charity pro-am in Ireland

Tiger Woods

U.S. golfer Tiger Woods is packing his clubs and gearing up for this years charity pro-am in Ireland in July.

This will be Woods' first appearance outside of the U.S. since the exploding scandal involving his affairs broke earlier in the year.

Woods will fly to Co. Limerick, Ireland to play the two-day charity event organized every few years by Irish racehorse owner JP McManus.

The 36-hole pro-am will be held at Adare Manor, which is a former Irish Open venue, on July 5-6.

Woods will then fly to Scotland where he will participate in the British Open at St Andrews.

In 2005 JP McManus pro-am raised 30 million euros (C$37.6 million) for various charities.

In a statement issued by the organizers, Woods said: "Like my own Foundation, I understand the importance and necessity of raising funds to help deserving individuals. This tournament does just that."

The Tiger Woods Foundation provides educational support programs and a learning centre for young people.

When Tiger first came on the scene years ago, I said one day he will show his true self and he did. Now he has to prove himself to the golfing world again without his cruches.
