On Sunday afternoon the Argentina Pumas took a hammering from the Irish team at the Aviva Stadium with a record victory of 29-9.

Jamie Heaslip was very pleased with Ireland’s performance and hard-head professionalism in the sub-zero temperatures.

Jonathan Sexton landed 17 points, converting each shot at goal.

At half-time Ireland led 19-3. However, some bad decision making after the interval meant there was a feeling the Pumas were being left off the hook.

Heaslip, who won man of the match, said he believes they got their tactics right. He said “I’m delighted we beat Argentina. I always say I play to win and that’s what happened…Granted, we probably wanted a little bit more ball in the second half and it did get a little bit loose at times.

“But when we had the opportunity we tightened it down when it got loose.

“Probably one or two decisions we made as a team regarding how to manage the game was off, but we’ll learn from that. As a whole the lads were very happy with the win.”

Ireland has now finished with two wins from the four matches this fall having beaten Samoa while losing to South Africa and New Zealand.

Heaslip is not satisfied with their success rate. He said “We have only won two games so we are not too happy with that…We have to look back and see where we can improve upon it.”

Ireland’s captain, Brian O’Driscoll was taken off the pitch during the game due to a jaw injury which will need surgery.
