Olympic boxing hero’s bank account scammed by iPhone thieves
Medal winner Michael Conlan suffers second knock-out blow
Irish Olympic hero Michael Conlan has been hit on the double by fraudsters after his bank account was raided.
The bronze medal boxer had his iPhone stolen outside the famous Copper Face Jack’s nightclub in Dublin at the team’s homecoming party.
Conlan was distraught when the phone, containing priceless photos from the Olympic village, was robbed.
But now he has confirmed that the thieves have accessed bank details stored on his phone and raided his account.
The Belfast fighter made the discovery after arriving from a post-games holiday in Ibiza with fellow medal winner Paddy Barnes.
The Irish Sun reports that Conlan’s account has been used to fund a series of online purchases.
The 20-year-old posted on his Facebook page: “Ok so just found out that someone buying things and using my bank details online! Seems I have been frauded! Some scumbags out there!”
Police in Dublin are scouring CCTV footage for leads in their bid to re-unite Conlan with his iPhone.
Images on the phone include photos from the Olympic village of Conlan with sports stars including Venus Williams, Novak Djokovic, Usain Bolt and Lennox Lewis.
