Second Half Surge for Orchard

Armagh 4-14 Roscommon 4-04

An Armagh second half surge when they ran off 2-06 without reply broke this Intermediate contest open after a very tight first half. The sides were even at the break 3-03 Roscommon to 2-06 Armagh after Roscommon had come back into the contest on the strength of Eoin Kelly, a cracker, Darren O’Connor and Conor Hogan goals but the introduction of Peter Hatzer and John McGeeney off the bench for the Orchard County was a game changing switch.

Both had goals while Hatzer also had a pair of points to open the second half. Good defending during the first 15 minutes of the second half by Caolan Short, Sean Kelly and Patsy Martin also nullified Roscommon treats. When Conor Hogan crashed his second goal on eighteen minutes of the second half it narrowed the gap too 4-12 to 4-03, but it was a false hope as final scores by Shane McKeever, his second of the game and Shane Moore ended the contest with Armagh reinforcing their ranking as the top contender for the Intermediate title this season.

Driscoll goal wins it

Leitrim 2-11 Cavan 1-13

Gary Driscoll had a star performance for Leitrim in his first game in New York by scoring two very important goals to help secure a hard fought win. Cavan opened the game with four points from frees and play with paddy Smith and Eoghan Carew each had two. When Dan Doona arrived to the fray however the game changed for Leitrim. He scored five points in the final 14 minutes and set up a wonderful goal for Ger Driscoll. Cavan had a three point spurt in the closing minutes but that was cancelled out by John O’Neill, Dermot Keane when he ventured forward and Doona. It gave Leitrim a 1-09 to 0-07 half time lead. In a game of waves Cavan had their second of the game to open the second half. 1-06 against nada for Leitrim again turned the game the goal was a gem from Tomo Smith a bullet from the left side. They also had a stream of wides. Leitrim did respond with a Gary Driscoll point and then had the game winner when John O’Neill set free Driscoll and he carried forward and blasted to the net. Doona and Carew had final scores for their respective teams and Leitrim hung on for a very important win.
