Tommy Smyth is known to one and all as the voice of soccer on ESPN, but those who know him know he is also a staunch supporter of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

That's why the Gaelic Athletic Association of Greater New York has announced this week that Tommy will be their Guest of Honor at their 2011 annual Banquet, the latest in a list of honors for the man who was Grand Marshall of the 2008 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

Tommy has been an ardent supporter of the New York GAA for close to five decades as a player, manager, selector and commentator. He joined the Louth Football Club in the early sixties and later he emerged as the voice of Gaelic Park.

To date he has received five Emmy nominations for his work on WNBC TV4’s annual broadcast of the Saint Patrick’s Day parade and currently he is a member of one of ESPN’s top-rated TV shows, Soccernet Press Pass.

The GAA banquet is set to take place at Springfield Boulevard, Queens Village on Saturday, March 26.
