Dublin’s hurlers have pulled off the GAA’s biggest shock in years with a sensational win over Kilkenny in the Leinster SHC semi-final replay.

Anthony Daly’s team shocked the All-Ireland champions at the second attempt when they held on for a 1-16 to 0-16 win in Portlaoise.

The win is the first time that Dublin have beaten Kilkenny in the championship since 1942 and comes a week after the Cats grabbed an injury time equaliser in the drawn game.

They now meet Galway in the Leinster final at Croke Park next Sunday with manager Daly eager for the winning run to continue.

Daly said: “It’s great to win. I know people said that our chance was gone after last week, but I always felt the lads were capable of another big performance and the lads delivered a big performance.

“It was tight and we just got over the line but we have no time to celebrate. despite having beaten Wexford and Kilkenny but we are still only in a Leinster final - but the big thing is we are in the Leinster final.”

Dublin goalscorer Danny Sutcliffe said: “It’s great to be in a Leinster final but we know we have nothing won yet and that’s the thing we have to remember.”
