Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is hoping for big wins for the Fighting Irish side this year, after making several changes to his coaching staff during off-season.

Notre Dame football fans were not pleased when the team lost five of their 13 games this past season for the second consecutive season.

With three of his coaching staff leaving for other jobs, Kelly decided to bring in new blood in the hopes of getting the program kick started.

Speaking to the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, Kelly revealed why those decisions were made.

“After every season, when you don’t reach the goals that you set for yourself, it’s important the appropriate measures are taken in terms of evaluating all facets of your program; Player development, player personnel, coaching staff…all of those things,” he said.

“We did not reach the goals that we had set offensively. So it was important that we put the pieces together and we started with the coaching staff. I think that we’ve made significant improvements there,” Kelly added.

The first of the big moves was made when Kelly recruited coordinator Chuck Martin over to offensive coordinator.

“I'm excited about that move,” Kelly said. “Chuck and I have a shared vision when it comes to offense. Chuck is experienced and knows what I am looking for.”
Regarding defence, Iowa State assistant Bob Elliot has been tasked with working the secondary.

“Bob is a veteran coach that has coordinated at the highest level,” Kelly said.

Defensive coordinator Bob Diaco was also named as assistant head coach.

“We think that these are significant changes that will improve our football program,” Kelly said. “I believe that they already have immediately in terms of the relationships, communication, and the vision that we have on the offensive side of the ball.”

Send me my national championship tickets now!!!! Oh! ND isn't playing in it.Well if they played 10% as good as they advertise, they should be there!
Don't know why printed so much printed space is give in nd. Last I knew the Republic's flag was tri-colour, green, white, orange. Just because a school is catholic doesn't make it Irish. Nor does the nickname. Look at the players and their names: A few Irish, yes, but mostly German, Polish, Italian, Mexican, African. The nickname should go back to the Ramblers. The polish on the golden dome has worn off. AND the NCAA should quit coddling them.
Isn't a changeup an off speed pitch in baseball? I am not familiar with the term in relationship to American football.
Touche! SeamusMor but the article is bout football! Can't argue your points, but nor can you argue mine.
99% of Notre Dame's football players graduate! That makes us prouder than our seven Heisman Trophy winners, and ten national championships. If Muph46 had good grades in high school, he might have gone to South Bend to learn for himself that winning football games is only 1% of what Notre Dame is about. Of course, the good fathers of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, Indiana Province, hope that their athletic teams do well, but their first concern is in providing a first rate Catholic education. Notre Dame's philosophy and high academic standards might lead to the loss of a few games, but her graduates will be winners in the game of life. Compare and contrast the products of the football programs at University of Southern California and the University of Notre Dame, with Nevada State Prison inmate O.J. Simpson on one side of the equation, and Minnesota Supreme Court Associate Justice Alan Page on the other.
A.They don't play anyone (Air Force,Army,Navy) B. They can't recruit as well with stricter academic standards C.Their record in big games (Mich-So.Cal)is atrocious D.Their bowl record 15-17 So What's to get excited about?
