In the past Ireland had been stereotyped as a sexually repressed country. As recently as 1994, homosexuality was illegal in Ireland. Thankfully we have come quite the distance in the past 15 years to emerge as a country which is open to discussing and exploring the notion of sexuality. To celebrate this, here at IrishCentral.com we have compiled a list of some of the most talented Irish and Irish-Americans whose admissions of homosexuality have inspired others to do the same.

I don't know why they have to list the top ten talented "Gay" Irish. Aren't we all just humans? I don't know why there was such a push by Irish gays to march separately in the St. Patrick's Day parade in NY a few years ago. Can't they just march as proud Irishmen?
Sir Roger Casement? David Norris? Hello?
durmott mulrooney?
I was flabbergasted to know that Jane Lynch may have been a neighbor of mine when I lived in Dolton, Il. I lived there from 1957 to 1980, in a mixed Irish and Italian neighborhood (ex Chicagoans). Being Irish/Scotch from my mother's side, I can relate to a certain pride in having a celebrity (Irish, of course!)coming from the same town I lived it. (Aside: it seems most of the gays who are 'OUT' are female. Why aren't the guys coming 'OUT'; the rumors have it there are quite a few of them dangling in their closets!).
Now wash your hands.
Rosie O'Donnell talented ???????? lol
Oh yeah, richardandjb. Since when did the 21st century magically "validate" the gay lifestyle. You have been listening to the agenda pundits again. Have you "chosen" the "lifestyle" for yourself? Otherwise how do you know? I have had many chances in my life to do things that were illegal, immoral, or dis-honoring to God. I chose to deny myself the pleasure or enjoyment of those experiences by not choosing those actions-gay included! We make choices:just like theh 21st century idiom "IF IT FEELS GOOD-DO IT!" Youy have a brain-use it for the betterment of God and man not fleeting pleasure.
Hey conorsmom, God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It doesen't matter what year it is. You think that was fire and brimstone? My you are sensetive. I have always agreed with live and let live, they can answer for their own choices when they stand before God (who never changes), but anymore it's all in our faces, push the agenda. Remember the sheep comment? Keep your personal choices (right or not) to yourselves.
Can't wait till we get our first gay president.. who also happens to be one of our most intelligent, talented and an Irish politician with integrity - a rate commodity in Ireland these days..so say it now and say it proud -we're Irish and we're gay!! Actually I'm not but in solidarity brothers...
Must be a VERY SLOW news day !!!!!
As if a conservative would make any list on IC.
the sorry part is they turned out to be liberals
I think that the Irish have a hell of alot talented people and after reading some of the comments a hell of alot of loony thinkers
I find recognition of immigrant single parent, the majority of which are females, households surviving in the good old USA much more interesting reading.
