The president’s daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama have become the story in Ireland this week.

Between pulling faces at “Riverdance” and looking bored to the world at Trinity College when the family roots were explained, the good girls have been acting bad.

Good Morning America” even featured a segment showing the girls clearly restless and bored even when it involved meeting Ireland’s resident Great Man, the rock hero Bono.

They even asked their viewers via tweet to write in about their most boring vacation.

Then they were down in Glendalough in Wicklow listening to a lecture on early Christian history which must have really rocked for them. They are 14 and 12 in all fairness!

So really, when you look at the schedule it is hard to blame the 14 and 12 year-old. Tracing remote family roots in a stuffy library session or watching a rewarmed Riverdance is not exactly the kind of activity a teenager and pre-teen want to be involved in.

Mom Michelle handles it all with great grace and diligence but the daughters are clearly  a different matter.

Boredom seems to be the theme this week for the Obamas. There was even talk that Barack Obama looked very bored, but a G8 summit will do that to you, not the sparkling Fermanagh countryside.

He was probably anxious to have a round of golf on the award-winning Lough Erne course, but never got the chance.

Maybe it was the American media that was the truly bored ones as very little seemed to come out of the G8 apart from a dense and yes, downright boring G8 statement.

As for Sasha and Malia, maybe meeting Niall Horan of One Direction might have been more exciting than stuffy libraries, early Christian history lectures and Riverdance redux.

That’s kids for ya!
