The Villagers to play Brighton Music Hall

The Villagers
The Villagers

Irish band The Villagers will bring their unique brand of Indie-Folk this side of the Atlantic when they perform at the Brighton Music Hall, 158 Brighton Avenue, on June 10. The critically acclaimed band from Dun Laoghaire, Dublin are currently on a world-tour of sorts with their current stop in Boston being part of five dates in U.S. and Canada.

In true Irish style, The Villagers were formed in 2009 after frontman Conor J. O’Brien wrote their first song after waking up with a hangover. After performing at several music festivals such as Oxegen and Electric Picnic, they went on to support acts such as Tracy Chapman and Bell X1.

In 2010 the band released their debut album, Becoming a Jackal, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. The album was praised by critics with O’Brien being noted for his dark and eerie lyrics.

Their follow-up album, {Awayland} was released in January this year along with the singleNothing Arrived. To support the album, the group has toured extensively with a UK tour and various dates across Europe, Australia and Japan.

The Villagers gig follows a show by The Stranglers on June 4th. The punk-rockers from UK have been performing for 4 decades with hits such as “Golden Brown” and “No More Heroes”. Within the space of seven days, the Brighton music hall treat local music fans with a band at the top, and another on their way there.

The Stranglers play on Tuesday June 4th, 9pm ($23). The Villagers play on Monday June 10th at 8 PM ($13). Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.
