Please join us at the Irish International Immigrant Center as we screen the new Irish film 'UP Standing: Stories of Courage from Northern Ireland.' This feature had its premiere two weeks ago in Belfast and the IIIC has been selected to host the next broadcast.
In 'UP Standing,' ten diverse accounts of people are exposed as they stood up to violence, discrimination and prejudice in Northern Ireland. The event will take place at the IIIC office at 100 Franklin Street, Lower Level 1, Boston 02110 on Thursday, May 23rd at 6pm.
This film is a new and innovative approach to the peace building effort, used in schools and community centers as a tool for cross-cultural learning and positive relations building among the current tensions and conflict. We hope that you will be able to join us for this 45 minute film followed by a dynamic question and answer session featuring Sean Pettis, who has worked with the Corrymeela community for over 20 years.
This film screening event coincides with Community Relations week being celebrated in Belfast, Northern Ireland next week. Events will be held throughout the week with the Community Relations Council, which believes “that despite the difficult economic and financial environment,... the need to build a more shared society and to challenge the segregation and division around us is more relevant than ever. In recent years the annual Community Relations Week has been a marvellous opportunity to showcase some of the current community relations work in the voluntary and community sector, and also initiatives in the public sector.”
This film screening promises to be an engaging evening of stories and conversation on Northern Ireland. Please direct your RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
