Arsene Wenger believes in Arsenal

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes the unpredictability of this season’s EPL championship race means his team are still title contenders.

The Gunners had to fight back for a 2-2 draw at West Brom on Saturday, a result that leaves them five points behind leaders Manchester United with a game in hand.

“This is certainly the most level league, with the least predictable results, since I have been in England,” said Wenger, appointed Arsenal boss in 1996.

“When anybody plays against anybody, you cannot predict the result. Individual games are unpredictable, so the run-in will be down to consistency and character.”

What was good was the reaction of the whole team and their fighting spirit.

Arsenal were two down with 20 minutes to go before goals from Andrey Arshavin and Robin Van Persie rescued a point and probably their title hopes with nine games to go.

“It will be an interesting title race through to the end because we are ready to focus and ready for a fight,” added Wenger.

“Mathematically we lost two points, but psychologically I think we won a point, because when you are 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, you cannot be too unhappy with this comeback.

“I said that no matter what happened at West Brom, it would not be over, but for the team it was important not to lose. With what has happened to us recently, you wonder how we would have recovered if we had lost the game.”
