Possibly the biggest sporting power couple in the World split very publicly just over a week ago, when Rory McIlroy announced his wedding to Caroline Wozniacki was off only days after sending out invitations to the big event. Details are starting to emerge as to how the deed went down, and, let’s just say, Rory is not coming out of this story well. It would appear the Wozniacki, McIlroy breakup was very far from 'mutual.'

Details are emerging how McIlroy chose the decidedly cowardly method of a phone call to break off the wedding with Wozniacki, and somewhat astonishingly the call took only about 3 minutes. Close friends of Wozniacki’s have said the tennis star was actually laughing after the call, thinking that it had to be a prank, considering the brevity and indeed relative immaturity of the method McIlroy chose.

McIlroy seems to be trying to paint the decision as a mutual one saying, "The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails."

Wozniacki, perhaps stung by the very impersonal method of the break-up, has thrown ice cold water on that by saying, "Obviously you're not prepared for something like this, and it came as a bit of a shock."

She and McIlroy are understood to have been together for more than two years, before the golfer ended it all in a 3 minute phone call.

If only Rory McIlroy could have displayed this mean streak at the 2011 Masters.
